pete
Serious question. Does anyone know or have an opinion on whether the work they are currently doing will make any difference to the track? I have my own views but would like other opinions as I'm no expert (self evident).
mumbles
No expert myself but you would hope that the work they are doing to the track will make a difference just based on the length of time that it will be out of action and the possible cost involved. Brown fox
ARC have 11 races carded for their Sunday meeting at Te Rapa and they seem to have plenty of Nominations so lets hope for some great racing?

I recall posting 11 years ago about the state of the track at Ellerslie on another channel. I took photos when my horse was racing there. Having walked the track it was clearly evident that the turf and soil was stuffed. Drainage and sand slitting yady yady ya won't fix that problem. Look at Te Rapa - worked initially but only a short term fix - now they race on an uneven turf which has large pockets of sand. The irony is the ARC is racing at Te Rapa when there is a perfectly good track 20 mins away to the west!
Dark Beau
Well Chief Stipe, I am of the very opposite opinion. HOWEVER it will take at least 3 or 4 years to come right as the soil will be currently stuffed as someone said. My experience is Trentham, where there was no discernible difference for three years [after the drainage work and sand slitting] until the soil was able to "recondition its self" through not being waterlogged six months of the year. Prior to that everything that should have been of assistance drowned including the worms, and all that grew were buttercup and the useless poua grass. However now as we have all seen over the last three years, Trentham is without doubt the best racing surface in NZ. P.S. Anyone notice how it played on Saturday, after nearly a 100 mm of rain this month?
