Chief Stipe
If you bet on his horses you are always there or thereabouts. What prompted me to post this topic was the comment from George Simon that the Tiley/Jones combination at Avondale were aiming for a particular section of the track at Avondale today. May have been hyperbole but I suspect it is true. About 14 years ago I walked the track at Ellerslie early in the morning before my horse raced. I was shocked at its condition. As soon as my trainer was up and about I dragged him out to walk it too. When we walked it Nigel and his jockey were doing the same thing. Not just the straight but the whole circuit. My trainer wished he hadn't walked it because if we hadn't travelled from the CD he would have scratched. Nigel scratched his horse from a Group race. Joe Bloggs
He was a bloody good jockey too, a money rider, he could hold his own against the best in Sydney when he came over, if I was a new apprentice, I would be ringing him for a job.
