One of greyhound racing’s greatest promoters will farewell our sport this evening, when Mick Floyd winds up his career at Sandown Park.

Having started at Sandown in 2005, Mick has seen plenty of change, and he has been instrumental in growing the sport’s radio, digital and social media presence, while also significantly increasing the profiles of events such as the TAB Melbourne Cup and the innovative Speed Star concept.

“The professonalism of the sport as a whole has been one of the big things that has changed,” Mick told RSN’s Michael Felgate this morning.

“Not just at the administrator level, but also the way trainers prepare their greyhounds.”

“One of the things that has really improved is the way trainers are much more willing to be in front of camera or do the media side of things, which wasn’t always the case when I first started.”

Mick said he rates Fernando Bale as the greatest greyhound he has seen, while he also has a special place in his heart for the exciting Houdini Boy.
