Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 3, 2021 Journalists Share Posted October 3, 2021 There was a shock in the 100th G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday as the unconsidered German raider Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) swooped to conquer under Rene Piechulek. Coming off a win in the Sept. 5 G1 Grosser Preis von Baden, the Marcel Weiss-trained 4-year-old waited behind the leaders as Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was allowed to stride to the front. Sent in pursuit of that rival in the final two furlongs, Gestut Auenquelle's bay outstayed fellow closers Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal) and Hurricane Lane (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) in the final yards to score by 3/4 of a length. Tarnawa shaded the photo for second by a short head from Hurricane Lane, with Adayar fading to fourth, three lengths away.
