A friendship done right

Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes.

Some are short lived, some last the test of time, and others share the joy of winning an Adelaide Cup and competing in a Melbourne Cup Prelude together – which is the case with the owners of superstar greyhound Do It.

Glen Mollison and Jarrod Sharp are friends and owners of the talented speedster, and after starting out as colleagues they ended up as great mates.

“I didn’t get into greyhounds for the money, I did it because of the comradery between Sharpy (Jarrod) and myself,” Glen Mollison said.

“He is one of my only mates I have left, and I really wanted a friendship outside of work.”

Together, Glen’s first greyhound Do It has seen them celebrate victory on 13 occasions from 43 starts amassing almost $200,000 in prize money.

The Group 1 Adelaide Cup is the obvious highlight, and Glen gets most enjoyment out of catching Do It after his races, and will get the opportunity to do so again on Thursday night at Sandown in a Melbourne Cup Prelude.

“I also just love the way they run. It’s like watching Kelly Slater on the water – effortless,” Glen said.

Glen is no stranger to sports, in fact he dedicated more than 40 years to Lacrosse which saw both Glen and his two kids represent Australia.

“After leaving Lacrosse I thought it was the perfect time to get into greyhounds and I knew Jarrod had a fair bit of knowledge, so I had him find us a dog, I paid the money and now we have Do it.”

“I just love it so much; I want to get a couple more.”

“I also want to adopt him when he finishes his career – they have such a lovely nature.”

Despite winning the Adelaide Cup – which granted him direct entry into the Melbourne Cup heats, trainer Jeff Britton elected for Do It to compete in a Melbourne Cup Prelude on Thursday night regardless.

“He had six weeks off prior to the Adelaide Cup so now its just getting the extra runs under his belt before a possible start in the Topgun,” Jeff Britton said.
