Triple Group One winner Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante) has been cleared by Racing Victoria vets to contest Saturday’s Gr.1 Cox Plate (2040m)

The John Bary-trained galloper had to undergo a last-minute inspection on Friday morning after showing signs of lameness in his left front leg on Thursday, and was passed fit to run.

The stable removed the horse’s near front shoe overnight, treated the foot and replaced the shoe today (Friday) with the lameness now resolved.

The news wasn’t so good for French import Gold Trip (Outstrip), who has been ruled out of the Cox Plate after showing signs of lameness in his off fore and off hind leg on Thursday.

A panel of four Racing Victoria veterinarians re-inspected Gold Trip at the Werribee International Horse Centre and determined that the horse is not suitable to contest the race.

The veterinary panel noted that the horse presented with the same level of lameness in its off hind limb as on Thursday, but that the level of lameness in its off fore limb had increased over the past 24 hours.

A total of six veterinarians have examined Gold Trip over the past two days for Racing Victoria and have been unanimous in their decision that the lameness displayed by the horse was not at an acceptable level to pass a pre-race veterinary inspection.
