Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 25, 2022 Journalists Share Posted February 25, 2022 Doomben’s race meeting, scheduled for Saturday, has been abandoned following over 50mm of rain in 24 hours up until Friday lunchtime. The nine race card was already in jeapordy after 35mm of rain on Thursday night, but a further 25mm on Friday morning, forced officials hand and the meeting was officially cancelled. On Friday morning, the Brisbane Racing Club took to Twitter to announce that Stewards would be inspecting the Doomben course at around lunchtime, before confirming an hour later that the meeting had been abandoned. “Doomben received 35mm of rain overnight to 8am this morning,” the first tweet read. “Track H10 and rain continues. Stewards will make an inspection of the surface at lunchtime. Updates on the status of the meeting will follow.” With more rain forecast for Friday and Saturday, the club was forced to abandon the program, but some plans are being made to run the Listed Tattersall’s Member’s Cup during next week. A Phantom meeting will now be held at Doomben with FREE entry. pic.twitter.com/8aoi84rJ1d — Brisbane Racing Club (@BrisRacingClub) February 25, 2022 The Listed feature was the highlight of the Tattersall’s race day, so the club are hoping to run that race and potentially one other race from Saturday’s card at Wednesday’s Doomben meeting. “After a track inspection with QRIC Stewards, the Doomben meeting for tomorrow has been abandoned,” the second tweet reads. “The Tatt’s Member’s Cup and potentially one other race will be added to Wednesday’s meeting. “A Phantom meeting will now be held at Doomben with FREE entry.” As heavy rainfall continues to batter South-East Queensland, Saturday’s meeting at the Gold Coast has been transferred to the Sunshine Coast’s All-Weather PolyTrack, while Sunday’s meeting at the Sunshine Coast is also likely to be transferred onto the Synthetic Track as well. Further south, Royal Randwick is rated a Heavy 9 at the time of writing, with up to 30mm of rain forecast for that area before the first race is set to jump on Saturday. Australian Group 1 racing is scheduled to return to Sydney, with the running of the Chipping Norton Stakes and Surround Stakes.
