Soft first 600m, loped along at the rear of the field, gradually improved position then got a drag three wide into the race, on the best part of the ground turning for home and a clear run. Built into the race steadily with no energy expended changing ground or stop starting. It wasn't a capacity field with only 12 in it. So he was never that far away. Different story if you were last of 18.

Asterix is a Tavistock stayer with leg and feet issues - many like that don't go on. Trust you to go off on a tangent --I was clearly referring to the number of starts and not comparing the two horses. Still, this bloke cannot be that bad if he has thoise problems yet still licked them all.
curious
1 hour ago, Chief Stipe said: La Crique ran her first 400m a second quicker than Asterix and she had the fastest last 200m sectional. Asterix was able to lope along at the back of the field maintaining and even pace. La Crique was having to chop and change her rhythm as the front runners stop and started. She also had to to go searching for a run in the straight changing direction several times. Surprising she even ran the fastest last 200m. Certainly her speed wasn't "nullified by the distance". Yes. She certainly ran out the 2400 alright. But it's the fastest 2400 that counts. Don't see her changing direction in the straight, She had an unimpeded run as he moved out. He never stopped riding her during that process. I don't think the last 200 means much except to confirm that she ran out the race which was over by that point and Asterix was only asked to keep up a steady gallop to the line from there. Nothing else was a threat to either of them.

After viewing the last two weeks of OZ racing I don't see Asterix being anywhere near as competitive. If La Crique had had the run Asterix had the result would have been reversed and in my opinion by quite some margin. 1
Kihikihi Kid
More to the point, amazing how Kelt has bounced back. Thoiught he went broke , didn't/couldn't pay the sponsorship money to Hawkes Bay racing for the $2 million Kelt. O and that speech re the $3 million Kelt the year after, never happened. Think he also screwed the Hawkes Bay Rugby team , financially , not physically ... Copped a hiding at Mt Maunganui taking on the boy racers NY Eve. But the best was trying to drive through Police barricade at Hastings on NY Day. Assaulting cops on the way. Not for me. Happy for O'Sullivan/Scott though, the owner, not so much
nod
Thats a bit rough =how about a big thank you for the tremendous amount of sponsership monies provided over many years? I see you are just a kid but surely you can see that many like this weels headliners have a rather chequered past. Racing attracts the good and the bad.. There are troughs of highs and lows everywhere.

There are troughs of highs and lows everywhere. Unfortunately the state that NZ Racing is in and is ever reducing size leads to more and more people knocking those that are doing or have done well. The "bad" we see in NZ would hardly gain a mention in OZ. They call it fair dinkum colour! Of course in today's cancel culture it is worse. Shane Warne gets a State Funeral at the MCG - if he started out today he'd have been cancelled within months.
