Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 26, 2022 Journalists Share Posted March 26, 2022 Many, if not most, prognosticators saw Saturday's G1 Dubai World Cup as a fait accompli, with 'TDN Rising Star' Life Is Good (Into Mischief) jumping a short-priced favorite. But the heavy chalk began to wobble with a furlong left in the words of commentator Alistair Cohen, and at the end of 10 furlongs, it was COUNTRY GRAMMER (h, 5, Tonalist–Arabian Nights, by Forestry) who proved the superior stayer, getting home three-parts of a length to the good of Hot Rod Charlie (Oxbow), who looked destined to finish well down the field before finding his second wind. Japan's Chuwa Wizard (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) weaved his way through final-furlong traffic to fill third spot after finishing second last year, while Life Is Good simply failed to stay and could do no better than fourth. Owned in partnership by Zedan Racing Stable–whose colors were carried Saturday–WinStar Farm and Commonwealth Thoroughbreds, Country Grammer was acquired for $110,000 from the Paul Pompa dispersal at Keeneland January in 2021. Previously a $60,000 Keeneland September yearling, Country Grammer fetched $450,000 as an OBS April breezer and won the GIII Peter Pan S. while under the care of Chad Brown prior to Pompa's untimely passing in late 2020.
