Mrs Bloggs is just about to leave for her 'day job'. She is a volunteer at our local RDA, Riding for the disabled, she is on the committee, today's roll up is huge, it's the horses birthday, and Mrs Bloggs and a few other hardy souls are going to the Mall to buy carrots, apples and party hats for the disabled kids that will arrive on coaches and spend the day in party mode with what are surely some of the loveliest creatures God created.

The joy these kids derive from their interaction with the horses is priceless, the horses are very fortunate also as they have a great life and because of their placid and amiable natures carved out a niche career instead of retirement to a paddock or far far worse.

There are too little racehorses being re-homed into RDA, many racehorses would make great RDA horses, there is currently a Government grant process in place here in QLD to encourage the re-training and placement of suitable horses, and it's being embraced wholeheartedly, so, today being the horses birthday, we wish all horses a very happy day and a long and healthy career and/or life, be it what it may and in what sphere.......

Great sentiments, Joe, wholeheartedly agree.

One of my flatmates is a volunteer to RDA as well - she is on a 'jobseeker' benefit, former drug addict, abused in a former relationship - and we all thought that's where she would stay, with self-esteem at rock bottom.

So, with a few verbal arse-kicks from this household as well as a lot of positive feedback, she is now one of their valued workers, and has been given the chance to take a course and become a permanent, paid employee of RDA.

So, not just the horses or the kids, there are positive vibes around the whole operation.
