Abandoned meeting stakes

I noticed this in a news item on here:

Healeville’s race meeting on Sunday 31 July was abandoned due to an inconsistent track surface, with prizemoney to be divided equally between runners engaged

This seems a good way to ensure that available prizemoney finds its way to participants and defrays their costs. I wonder is it common in Oz or used in other codes?

The problem in NZ is that they need abandonments to stay solvent.

Don't you find it strange that the 'big wigs' mainly north of the thermal pools are always silent? Why is that do you think?

When they do say something, it's a whisper, not a roar, .....funny that.

Yeah na - not silent.  They must have been speaking to someone to get these stakes.
