Chief Stipe
If the majority of class horses are trained in Cambridge and Matamata then Ellerslie needs to rely on income from racing and hospitality to make ends meet. They don't and won't have any income from the regular training of horses.
nod
Pukekohe is to be their training centre
Freda
Well, they don't now so nothing is different there. And my sources tell me that the training operations at both Rangiora and Riccarton bleed money. They would be financially far better off without ' maintaining ' training facilities. curious
I think all training centres do except maybe Cambridge and perhaps where they volunteer staffed

When did Rangiora last have a race meeting? No excuses for Riccarton not to make money as a training facility. If they don't then they don't have enough horses or are not charging enough. Of course the additional AWT operational costs won't be helping.

And Riccarton is obviously not charging enough, thanks for that snippet, we'll just double our training fees to cover increased costs and watch the horses disappear.
curious
I can tell you that Foxton also hasn't had a race meeting in a long while, probably couldn't afford the loss from running an industry day one, but also loses heaps from their training operation.

I should have thought there would be a significant saving. The regular visits from the Martin Collins crew were factored in to the original contract, most of which was met by the taxpayer. curious
One is the hallowed grass which is seldom available it seems but what is the .5? I'm imagining a track that only goes half way round!

The poly doesn't get groomed daily either, I was told, although it is supposed to be. When it rains the plough is unavailable and can take up to a week to be suitable to use. And over the spring period there was clearly a cost- cutting strategy wrt mowing on the CP. We all saw the results of that.

I also thought the poly was supposed to be groomed daily. Further I have heard it has at least sometimes been groomed without the preceding manure removal occurring. It won't last long if that's true and they are incorporating organic matter into the surface - false economy given the cost of full surface replacement. When they are paying an arm and leg to Martin Collins for maintenance advice they surely should be using it. That's even worse than them failing to follow the free guidance and advice for the mowing and renovation of the CP which as you note cost not only the club but lots of participants heaps. The assets capable of earning revenue are not able to be used. Bit like owing a Taxi on a cab rank and not putting fuel in it.
