OTTLEY AND O'REILLY GO HEAD TO HEAD

Congratulations to Samantha Ottley for being the leading female driver in 2022. Miss Ottley drove 71 winners and finished seventh in the Drivers' Premiership. Samantha Ottley has taken her driving to a new level this season. She looks fitter and stronger and I think the competition from Sarah O'Reilly has focussed her mind. Whatever she's done.... It's working...

Sarah O'Reilly had another mammoth season. She's won so many championships I won't mention them here. Sarah O'Reilly is a natural in the cart and with her genes it is hardly surprising. What a line: Sire Gerard one of NZ's most underrated drivers/trainers, uncles Kerry, Leo, Patrick, who was the best in the business in the 70s. Grandfather Patrick was also a top driver/trainer.

Sarah O'Reilly drove 70 winners last season. Wow, considering the class orfhorse she drives and with little support from Canterbury trainers that is a huge effort from Sarah. Sarah was leading Miss Ottley by a number of wins in the final two weeks of the season. But Miss Ottley and the Mark Jones' team were on fire on the coast and picked up many wins to just sneak past Sarah.

Sarah finished eighth in the Drivers' Premiership.

Well done Samantha and Sarah.

I see Sarah still being under utilised by southern trainers. Only 2 drives today for the 1 win. For someone so young she has great hands for driving the trotters.
she had a lot less drives than Sam last year and Sam only got past her at reefton.
personally I would put Sarah up as a driver way before giving Sam a drive.

I really like Mark Jones as a trainer and he has been handicapped by having to put Sam on who runs his stable.sam is a great driver but will never be anywhere near the best drivers and is not great in a finish.so many close seconds would have been wins with a top driver.she has well a truly had her chance.where Sarah hasn't and does not get much support.sarah hopefully will continue to improve on her already great driving ability into the future.
