  1. News Pinn in sharp form at New Plymouth 12 May 2018, 6:26 p.m. Wiremu Pinn savoured a double delight when on debut at New Plymouth on Saturday. The 19-year-old is apprenticed to Allan Sharrock and in his first raceday ride he was successful aboard stable runner London Express in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Pearl Series Race (1200m). Art Deco looks set for a lucrative winter after her fresh-up win on Saturday under apprentice Wiremu Pinn Photo: Race Images Pinn later took the reins aboard Sharrock’s top winter prospect Art Deco, who resumed in style with victory in the BNT Group Handicap (1200m) at the expense of a gallant Taurus. “I really liked her today,” Sharrock said. “She’s a good mare and she’s a lot stronger now.” Art Deco has fashioned the tidy record of six wins and nine placings from 18 starts and Sharrock is looking to fill the only gap on her CV with stakes success during her winter preparation. “I was a bit surprised she didn’t get black type last time and I’m sure she can this time,” he said. A daughter of Road To Rock, Art Deco settled in behind the leaders on the fence and Pinn stuck closer to the rail into the straight. They were in front on straightening and saw it through strongly to win by two lengths from Taurus with Kitaya taking third money. The effort of Taurus was full of merit, as he was conceding 10 kilos to the winner and chased bravely in the closing 300m. The outing will have him primed for another crack at the Listed Ag Challenge Stakes (1600m) on his home track at Wanganui. The nine-year-old won the race in 2016 after two previous placings in the race and he finished third last year. – NZ Racing Desk. Video replay: Art Deco winning the BNT Group (1200m) Handicap

  7. That is a little bit of a long bow Mardigras. It would be fair to say that it isn't the first time NZ trainers have gone to Australia to race. I think that this is bigger than what Mr Pike has done and we can't draw conclusions about previous runners. That is not fair. What is of most concern is the fact that allegedly (according to Whyisit) that a NZ Stipe told a trackside presenter that it IS different in NZ. There is of course the other question about how much raceday testing has been done for alkalising agents. Also the efficacy of the alleged treatment on raceday performance more than 24 hours later is very doubtful. That is it doesn't enhance the horse's performance at all.
  8. BOAY has approached the RIU for comment. It would be interesting to hear our NZ trainers have interpreted the rule or how they have been instructed by the RIU to interpret the rule.
