Aussie TAB to take over?

Credit where credit is due - the new Racecafe is actually pretty good. Having the news and associated reports all in one place is very handy
-
To be fair, the new and improved racecafe is actually quite good, especially the news segment

Did anyone just hear the first from Matamata? If it wasnt so bad you would actually have to laugh. There is no audio and Sweens had to describe the race......needless to say it was a pretty piss poor attempt albeit in trying circumstances. "And I have no idea what that horse is......" ....and "(inaudible name runs to the lead, oh no, thats not (inaudible name)" Lets hope we get more of the Sweens action in race 2!!

What a joke.....the following quote from David Farrar at Kiwiblog The most ridiculous policy is Winston forcing the Government to make horse purchases tax deductible if the horse is good looking. No I’m not making it up. That really is the policy. A horse can be deemed tax deductible “by virtue of its bloodlines, looks and racing potential”. IRD is going to need a new division that can assess how good looking a horse is, and hence whether it can be tax deductible.

Taken from Voxy.co.nz Friday, 11 May, 2018 - 10:55 John Messara has been given the task of reviewing New Zealand’s racing industry and he is confident it has a bright future if his recommendations are implemented. The Arrowfield Stud chairman and former Racing Australia and Racing New South Wales chairman has a close association with New Zealand and he felt obligated to assist when approached by New Zealand’s Racing Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters. "I received a letter (from Peters) saying we’d love you to come and do a high-level review, on behalf of the Government, of the industry and tell us what you think ought to be done to turn it around," Messara said. "It was an offer I couldn’t resist from the point of view that I felt confident that I knew some of the things that could be done anyway. "They are part of the racing and breeding family, New Zealand. I have owned a stud farm there in the past, 20 years ago I had a holding in Ra Ora Stud. I have got a lot of friends there and a lot of my staff are Kiwis in Australia, so I thought I should do this for them." He is currently in the initial stages of his review and is set to report back to Peters by the end of the season. "I have started and I have got to report by July 31 to the Deputy Prime Minister," he said. A major bone of contention in New Zealand racing is the level of prize money and Messara believes this issue can be turned around quickly. "I think they can," he said. "Look out Australia, New Zealand is back on the march."

poundforpound Open Class - R121 Members 863 1,023 posts Report post Posted 58 minutes ago Absolutely agree. This crowd is showing the silly old pale stale males who’ve been trying ( really badly ) to run the clubs, and NZTR, how to reach out to and embrace fresh young blood........should’ve happened years ago....I joined their FB page today and if I can I’ll be subsiding their activities any time they’re in AK. They sound like a laugh to be with, and when’s the last time you saw anyone involved with administration laughing at the races ? I note they’ve registered colours, well here’s my first offer, every time one of the BGP boys says FUCK on Trackside I’ll give you a $500 bar tab.....and if you mention Headquarters Viaduct in the same interview I’ll double it ( but you can’t speak badly of HQ in any way shape or form, and you certainly can’t say fuck HQ !! ) Go team BGL....let rip and give this game, and the stupid old farts in charge, a bloody good shake.

Some of the large Aussie bookmakers pay a rebate on turnover which creates havoc when the likes of Black Caviar or Winx are racing. Some punters were getting a 10% rebate on turnover so could effectively back Black Caviar to run a place at the effective odds of $1.10 which was obviously ludicrous but, nonetheless, was happening. This saw the place odds for the second and third horses crunch artificially lower to cover the rebates the large punters were getting.

When they ran the punters club at Ellerslie they were definitely punting through the TAB on that occasion

Many Studs/Bloodstock companies will make these sort of donations, I don't think its an issue is it ?? (well, besides the issue of donating to the tree huggers!)

Anyone else get a bit sick of the term 'blue blood' during that race??!!

They are a great bunch of lads and very good for the sport of racing...just what the doctor ordered one would have thought

I agree Hesi, there are basically 2 complete morons left over there (albeit it with multiple aliases) so leave them to it. The Diceman nailed it when he called it 'Runtheirracecafe'

This is great, I love guys that threaten legal action at every turn as in my experience this just reflects how amateur they really are. He doesnt have a legal leg to stand on with any of this, especially given how he has sprayed details everywhere. I love the CEO title, CEO of the Hibiscus Coast Highway bus stop....

Hi MRZIM, I guess if you are aiming for a product, as HK is, where there is no room for any kind of corruption then you just need to ban all forms of jockey betting. I agree with your logic but I also can see where they are coming from
-
Madness on Nash's part - HK well known for enforcing these rules. Would be interesting to know what he was paid for the tips....

Great work on this initiative guys, really impressed.
