Hey Aquaman, If a member of the public was interested in in getting a greyhound pup to raise entirely as a family pet, do you have any idea of what kind of money a breeder might ask of someone interested in acquiring one for this purpose? I'm picking it would be substantially more than the $450 GAP charges for a retired animal. Asking for an anti-racing forum member who seems to like keeping greyhounds around their home.

Seems you might be making some bits up. The report doesn't say that the injury occurred during Thursday's race. The report does say that it was x-rayed Friday morning & found to be fractured. There is more than one reason a dog can fracture a bone.
-
Yep, Addington going thru a bad patch & the Stewards shut it down accordingly, as they should. Now, you haven't answered my question on another thread. Where did you rescue your hounds from?
-
Seems so. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15881/stewards-report.aspx 1). This meeting was abandoned after Race 10 due to the deterioration of track conditions on the bend leaving the home straight. Two major injuries, occurring in back-to-back races last night, although on totally different portions of the track. Three majors in the last 21 races, going back to Tuesday. I hope they get it sorted quickly, as the track had been running well within the GRNZ target percentage for well over a month prior.

With one lap to go - Same race, after the winning post & entering the slow-down/catching area. The decision to allow the race by the Steward was criminal.
-
Most if not all dogs thought the lure was slowing down, as it does just about every time they run in a race, as it was entering the catching area. Sorry Quirk, dogs don't count the number of laps.
-
It should have been declared a no-race. However, that would have been inconvenient, as it was a heat race for the Kingston Cup. The rule - 2) Following the running of an Event, the Stewards may permit a variance to the distance required by subrule (1) of this rule that occurred during an Event if satisfied that as a consequence of the variance no greyhound was advantaged or disadvantaged so as to affect the outcome of the Event The Stewards ruling - The lure was observed to be close to the leading runner leaving the home straight with a lap to run but no runner was substantially inconvenienced. Lure driver M Gallagher was spoken to in regards to this and reminded of his obligations. Convenienced or inconvenienced are not determining factors. Was any dog advantaged or disadvantaged because of the event, 100% yes. Quirk should be stood down immediately pending retraining and numerous satisfactory trials.

If the dog was actually chasing the lure, instead of the lure carriage, it would have caught it!

I agree. There has been a lot of improvement. What I am critical about is GRNZ making statements and then not following thru with them. Manukau's safety rail is a classic example. 2014 - nope July 2023 - Announced for Nov 2023 - nope/delay. Jan 2024 - nope/delay. May 2024 (yes today) - Still nope. Still delayed? What gives? They can't even complete a relatively simple project which they stated wouldn't interrupt trails or racing. If they can't do something as easy as this, what can they do?

Interesting terminology. Where did you rescue them from?

Thus me thinking short term it's a good thing. It must cost a fair coin to send dogs overseas. That why I made the suggestion that GRNZ could fund vet care for the life of a greyhound rehomed by them or their agents in a successful NZ adoption. In most case I'd expect the cost incurred for future vet bill would be less than flying them overseas, and also spreads the expenditure over a much longer period. This would make adopting one or two of them a far more attractive for any kiwi looking for a dog.
-
As for sending retired greyhound to the States, I see it as a good thing, but only as a temporary measure to get the overwhelming number of dogs waiting to get into homes. I reckon that if GRNZ can cover the costs of sending them overseas, then instead why can't they use the same funds to place them here with kiwis? Maybe domestic adoption numbers would substantially increase if GRNZ was willing to fund future vet bills for the dogs that were successfully placed here in NZ instead. At least that would be keeping the funds in this country instead of sending it offshore never to be seen again.

I reckon that @Seeyounexttuesdaytrainers is at least not Aaron Cross, if he's still associated with the GLP. I've had forum dealing with Aaron in the past over on the red site and on the old Kiwidogz site too. It's not his writing style nor was he an emoji user.

Another pointless presentation. 3rd quarter injury data correlation, posted on BOAY before GRNZ have even made public their 2nd quarter data. Current season to date (9 months).

Note to self - Must go to Specsavers ASAP. My eyes have begun to see the unbelievable.

Feb AHWC minutes have been published. https://www.grnz.co.nz/Files/Animal Health Welfare Committee minutes/00 2024 02 21 AHWC Minutes - Draft (2).pdf One thing I find is very confusing. Who is this Michael? There was no "Michael" either present or in attendance at the meeting. In fact, they didn't even invite a "Michael" to the meeting. Maybe this new Michael is the person who caused all the grief protesting in Cambridge not so long ago... How does Michael know that dogs were not injured because they were raced too often? Does he know the training program at the home kennel of dogs that were injured? Does he know how many trials each dog had run between their race-day starts? Does he have evidence that ensures "the controlling factors" GRNZ has in place within their rules are infallible? Whoever this Michael is, he sure doesn't sound any better than the last Michael they had. You know, the one who said that Manukau & Cambridge led the pack in terms of low injury rates. When mediocre (at best) workmanship masquerades as expertise, no amount of time or money will plug the hole in a sinking ship.

Another example of GRNZ proving themselves worthless. After being more than a year overdue, you'd think this would be front page news for them. Instead, it gets a blurb buried in a Stewards report.

Standard process is that you don't change the minutes after they've been signed off, because that would be committing fraud. https://www.grnz.co.nz/Files/Animal Health Welfare Committee minutes/2023 12 13 AHWC Minutes - Draft (1).pdf

Might as well put these to the list too. Feb 2024 AHWC minutes long overdue. Likely that Apr 2023 AHWC has been held too. What are you hiding GRNZ?
-
December Progress Report long overdue. Only a few days left for the April report as well. Maybe GRNZ is too busy installing Auckland's Nov 2022, Jan 2023 safety rail and getting the Wanganui straight track up & running, which was supposed to be commissioned in May last year.
