King Louie's change of tactics OUTRAGE!
MaltedMilkshake replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
And that is why there is absolutely NO credibility regarding NZ racing...and yes, there would now be a full blown inquiry into the performance of King Louis in Sydney and definitely Hong Kong. GD, I don’t think you understand - no punters, no industry...kill the punter, kill the industry...and that is why the industry is in the parlous state it finds itself in. -
Today’s results in both the 2 & 3 yo races were just as we thought. I think it’s only fair that Vela returns $250k of his Longleaf money to,the general prize money pool. Why should we stump up “our” money to fund these races. it’s his race, so NZB pays for the race’s total prizemoney or they open it to all 2/ 3yos... But of course, I must be mad to think this scenario has even registered with the sycophants that are charged with running our industry...probably just sipping bubbles in the room ....and chatting about how they’ll bump it up next year...

Good luck with her....I have a good feeling about Contributer...?

He’ll win another one and then bye bye.....he could’ve been a “stallion syndicate” horse, if so there maybe be tax implications (?).... any yarners care to comment?

This is the reason our Racing Industry is Failing.

In fact the government contributes more to NZ racing participants than most actually think.... All those horses exported to Asia go GST free and no capital gains tax .... is this ever mentioned by people that feel the government should do more? I don’t think so .... People need to analyse more, not just accept the status quo... -
So there in black & white for all too see.....our failing industry is supporting NZB by contributing $500,000 to Karaka Millions Day... yet there is no money, due to budget failings, for example, the Pearl Series....how can this be? Tell me, what was NZB’s gross profit on Karaka 2018 yearling sales? OK folks...Here is the evidence the show is run by sycophants who pander to the requirements of their mates. The time has come and gone for a new broom....the industry is now officially “failed”.
-
Thanks Rod & DB... well if that is the case, I’m bloody angry...why are our extremely limited funds being handed out, gratuitously, to benefit NZB and their primped and preened followers? If they want to run races such as the Millions, which are closed to all but a few, then let them fund it. Does any other owner/stakeholder find this situation intolerable? Depleted prizemoney is something driving owners out of breeding and racing...is it any wonder most people believe the “up north” crowd is the only jurisdiction racing administrators care about?

“Bang the drum”.....may as well be “bag” -
I have a question for the learned yarners please. Does the industry contribute funds towards the closed, restricted races to be run at Ellerslie tomorrow? Whilst I understand purchasers have a stream of pay ups over time for these races, would this cover the totalprize money on offer or does the industry contribute/subsidise the purse?

What I find difficult to absorb is all the talk NOW from the movers & shakers...where were they 5 years ago...? Just makes me incredibly angry that these self absorbed, self centred creatures now want to speak up...if they think they’ve got leverage why wait until 2 minutes to midnight to bag the drum? Again the gene puddle is not deep enough in NZ for independent agenda-free administrators to have a seat at the table. -
Trentham Protesters will be at the gate...rotten tomatoes?
MaltedMilkshake replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
Like many other so-called initiatives, the NZTR likes to be seen as following the global trend with its commitment to OTT and anti bullying. bullying can’t be swept under the carpet quickly enough...by NZTR management....I have been at the coalface and I can confirm the NZTR looks after its own. Even the nominated partner, Salvation Army’s response was “sorry about that, but have a good life”.. In regards to OTT, I will only make the comment this issue is much like opening a can of worms...and unless it’s policed stringently, I fear the worst. Once a horse loses its earning potential, it’s left to the decent people to make the effort to re-home them. Owners and trainers should be made “accountable” but of course that’s an oxymoron! -
The Labour Government of Jay Weatherill closed the remaining coal powered generators which means SA is TOTALLY dependent on Victoria to supply base load power and Vic are in the process of closing their last coal power station. The government has invested heavily in renewables....and because they are subsidised by the government, the people pay the price through sky high electricity prices. When the weather heats up in Summer as it normally does (sometimes it will be 40c for 10 days on end with no relief) and the whole power system fails. Therefore manufacturing industries that require constant, reliable power have left the state...and if there is power the kilowatt rate is 43c per Kw hr.....in Qld it’s 27.8c I was down there 2 months ago....Adelaide is like a country town from the 80s....very little investment over the past 10years and it’s showing....bit of a ghost town.

A wide ranging cuts in prize money announced today in South Australia, should sound warning bells for NZ. As SA has the highest POC rate of tax in Australia, punters have voted with their feet and walked away... The Government will not consult with the racing industry leaving many to believe it’s the end for this once great thoroughbred state. I believe they are talking strike action, a la Queensland...but will it be enough to get the cash starved government to the round table? With the highest energy prices in the OECD, this will be just another industry that has folded in that state.
-
What a total sham. If they have any idea about form, that is where their testing should lead them....but as I have said for several years, they can’t be that incompetent...or are they? I don’t have any faith and after a couple of recent experiences, nothing they do will encourage me to continue investing. I hope we see a range of retrospective enquiries in the near future...with the industry at 1 minute to midnight, this is the time for these clowns to be open and transparent and up the ante. We don’t need an Aquanita situation or Ben Currie episodes to get the ante racing brigade going...

Another issue with the M report, is the man has listened to too many expat Kiwis who have not lived in NZ for several years therefore not quite getting to grips with the realities many of us face. They and their mates live In rarified air....

When I questioned this via Twitter, I was told in no uncertain manner that everything was kosher. Rail was in the correct position and the timing mechanism had no issues. She is just a very quick filly. So even when common sense tells you to ask a legitimate question, you get hammered down....so why bother?
-
One final word....why couldn’t the sponsor donate the bike to the injured jockeys fund....remember Maija Vance...?
-
Sorry but I disagree with all of you. Trainers have ample ways & means to fund their lifestyles ... this is just taking the piss. I feel exactly, the same about the Mooney Valley 55Sec Challenge.... Racing is struggling to maintain owners....and this is just thumbing in their face. Poor look Ellerslie...what about the people who put their hands in their effing pocket every month to put this measly show on ? What about the exhorbitant pay ups required to run in a $50k race? Its not going to make one iota of difference to whether a trainer will run a horse in a certain race or not...because there are no bloody choices. That’s the final straw for me....

Like a broken record, I will keep posting the need for the RIU to be disbanded. The sooner our industry is rid of these oxygen thieves and replaced with people who are capable of reviewing races and personnel with an analytical eye, the better. As I said to my trainer a little while ago when on the receipt of a ride which was totally contrary to the riding instructions, follow the money....it ain’t difficult.
-
That seems to be the overwhelming issue with NZ racing.....forget Messara Report, forget the TAB overhaul and new platforms.....this is the greatest issue facing the industry...accountability or should I say, lack of accountability. if there was accountability do you think the industry would be in the irrecoverable mess it finds it self in?
-
The appalling behaviour by the RIU is laughable if it wasn’t so serious. Selective or non tC02 testing, questionable status of P positive horses, extremely lenient jockey warnings ....what a joke...why is Tony Allan not suing them for providing an unsafe workplace. As an owner I have no confidence and feel they are bringing the industry into disrepute. Who is policing the police?

I read with interest the recent announcement by Peter V’Landys of the next round of prize money increases in NSW. Included is the creation of a multi million dollars races for 4year olds. These races are partly to encourage owners to keep their valuable colts in work and to also slow the export of potential superstars to Hong Kong. V’Landys states “the loss of horses, either retiring to stud or being sold to Asia, is having a significant and detrimental effect on betting turnover”.....HELLO EVERYONE..... now for the final nail in the NZ racing coffin....so this news from V’Landys will have the hands of trainers, syndicators and bloodstock agents wringing with absolute delight, as Willy Leung states they will now have to source more horses from NZ to fill the void... There you go folks...Winston’s export focussed strategy is working...exporting the crap out of the local domestic racing population is certainly helping the tote turnover....which is what is supposed to be sustaining the industry... You’re whinging now about the races being a boring day out...well things just got more boring....and the tote will, give up the ghost....

From what I have experienced, I think the point M is making is perfectly legit. Now if DE is running a business, he is minimising his tax because all the GST is claimable....so there’s no immediate benefit to the government there. All his expenses including wages are also deducted from the business income. And is it a fair question to ask if some of DE’s owners are minimising their tax, which is perfectly legal, through investment in his stallion syndicates...? The NZ tax law is slightly more lenient in comparison to Australia and perhaps a reason why he didn’t expand the business to Australia? In addition, they have a significant capital gains tax there.

What this whole case highlights is the complete lack of accountability and professionalism of both industry administration and participants. How can Club owned stable facility be left in such a state? As the Landlord, it’s their responsibility to ensure the facility is clean, safe and provides visiting licensed trainers with a good, clean working environment for their staff and horses. Mr Mills and the CJC should be held accountable for offering trainers a second rate facility without the necessary security arrangements the industry requires. However the training partnership is accountable as well. This partnership has 3 licensed people and yet from accounts given to the RIU, no licensed person from the partnership was with the horse during its time at Riccarton. Why would you leave a horse at a facility with no apparent security and a questionable state of cleanliness? And because you’re not there, you leave that decision to stable staff? Mr Rae admitted to the RIU he left 5horses in the care of his staff to take to the CJC race meeting. And the RIU - have used evidence from overseas cases to assist them with their findings - interesting. In addition, Why did they not sanction the CJC for their inadequate premises or remind the Rae Partnership of their obligations regarding security and horse welfare. But in the big scheme of things, the professionalism of the racing industry needs to come up a notch (or 3).
