  1. Hmm, it's not hard to see the overlap in the venn diagram... Take last year's winner Sharp N Smart. You're telling me that a slot holder wouldn't have snapped him up for the 1500m if that were an option? If you agree that might have happened, then your statement fails immediately 😋
  2. Derby and the 3yo slot race on the same day? They're just going to end up with two diluted 3yo races... Calling it, the Derby will be won by an Aussie visitor, and Te Akau will win the slot.
  3. Like not changing a flag...
  4. What a finish (to the race, and probably also his racing career)! Shame to see Wells drop his rider, but seeing the old boy get up more than makes up for it.
  5. Timed at 1:48.3, it's one of the fastest qualifiers ever. Pure Country went 1:48 in 2017 to beat Shark Gesture's 1:48.2 set in 2010, so he's in good company. Wasn't sure that he had the pace for North American racing, but that belief is quickly changing. Can't wait for his debut!
  6. An effortless 1.51 for Laz at Meadowlands yesterday
  7. Great win by Heaven Rocks. He looks more suited to the mile races than Lazarus, who won comfortably at Pocono in one of the day's slower times. Bit of a Legend continues to be one of the best pacers over there, running his fastest ever mile at 1:49.4 to take out the US$200,000 Battle of Lake Erie yesterday. Three years of US racing for US$1.6 million ain't too shabby.
