  1. Ohh Chief.......is that a Segway LOL........I've no idea what the people of Manawatu are doing.......like you I read it in the Media...pop along to our annual Ash Poh meeting.....that's about it really ....
  2. why drive 5 hours....stay overnight......and spend the day in an Office at the races........when you can drive 5 minutes down the road and spend it in an especially set up Bunker..........watch races, see all camera angles....communicate with all parties via Zoom NRL been doing it for ages........any NRL controversy centres around the decisions given.......the technology delivering the pictures seems fine I see on the News just now the Apec Conference here next year is going virtual Perhaps the $$$ saved could fund more racemeetings......well how silly would that be
  3. 'Work from Home' Technology is the way of the future....Zoom etc When is the JCA going to be working out of a common Bunker.........they gallivant round the Countryside doing buggar all....costing the Industry a fortune
  4. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/121756369/racing-reform-bill-plan-for-struggling-clubs-to-have-more-say-on-future-and-assets
  5. My Armalight story - Only been to Addington a few times the first time.....and my first ever bet on a horse was Ar Miss......Addington....I would say mid January 1973...she won .....she would have been 3....the next race a 2yo race …..a first starter.....not picked by any of about 8 tipsters in The Press.....opened up on tote paying $2 to win.....led all the way ...bolted in...Young Quinn...……...an amazing night …..the last race one of those treble brackets Johnny Gee Tony Bear and one other....I think Merrin won...... Won plenty on Ar Miss and Armalight Coincidentally my next two trips to Addington were when Armalight won on Hands Down Cup Day paying 23's (that was a big night) and then the following year when she won the Cup I'm not really into standardbreds or standardbred breeding but I couldn't believe when I first saw Armalight. She was huge .. a monster.....whereas I recalled Ar Miss as neat and feminine....and I couldn't quite work that out anyway a couple of years ago I was thinking about her and ventured onto the Harness Website for the first time to have a look at her breeding record and noted she didn't produce any progeny of stakes ability And I thought...maybe she was just so big and clumsy like......and all that speed American blood started coming in and the breed was rapidly evolving away from the traditional big standardbreds up until that time anyway ….what would I know ….not into the standardbreds but I do appreciate champions
  6. Fascinating, thank you. Albeit a bit later in life I finally visited Greymouth twice in past 2 years and love the place. On tip toes I can just see over the large iron fence that surrounds Trotting Club and can't help but visualise the great days and very sorry to see it's dilapidated state. By the way...... who / what is the ownership of Nelson Trotting / ex galloping track
  7. La Mer will be in horse heaven hoping that her great grandson Benbatl, can do what she was denied and win the Cox Plate.. She was even money to win.......we arrived in Melbourne the day before - to "front page" headlines that she had run her last 600m trackwork on Thursday in 33 secs......and that she was past the post The other school of thought was that she had' left it on the track' Sadly the latter prevailed........we Kiwi's were shellshocked.,, gobsmacked ....couldn't believe she was beaten - a very numb feeling amongst 40,000 Aussies A week later she fronted in the McKinnon - from memory Family of Man swept up wide on the turn , put 3 lengths on them and La Mer dived down toward the rail but just ground home for a battling 2nd The one week back-up would have blunted her brilliance
