That was when racing was at a peak with trackside, ph betting , pubs in TABS etc Long hours for low pay even back then so I guess stakes were always lower than what was really needed

I used to love alex park before the passing lane and cambered tracks turned it so front running that the winner was usually in the first 5 at the 800m and I think their stakes were 1 or 2k more to account for the higher costs for Auckland compared to Ch Ch I wish someone had created a olympic type or velodrome type track, where there is no advantage in draw, fastest and fittest horse wins, no bad luck, blocked in, team driving , e.t.c Looking at the individual sectionals now some horses are running home and finishing faster than the winner and they are 6th but they would have to be gammalite on steroids, banana milkshakes, blue magic and blood spinning with a world record last 4 to 800m to win and drop dead! The passing lane was great for the trail and 3 bk but the cambered cambridge bend didnt help balance it out even though you could go faster around the bend The amount of lead trail passing lane wins became obvious really quickly and hasnt really changed It makes thoroughbred racing look so much more attractive and entertaining I just dont know much about it but will have to learn as we are still stuck with trots where you are lucky if your horse is still running, front running team driving and with the draw and start so important being stuck with p.lamb I am suprised didnt end standing start races single handledly. Race 1 to 8 no one moves, race 10, 6 lead changes I am exaggerating of course but it is a clusterfuck!

Check that first, I never had one for years and now If you withdraw all your money seems about once a month, I prefer the internet aswell and only use the TAB when I am unsure if the Bank deposit will go through before race one as can take 4 -5 hours with co-op bank. Went to a pub that has an independant TAB from the bar to deposit some money for local meeting and it was a wednesday but there was just a sign on the counter saying wine o clock only self service machine, so hurried to another tab just to wait 20 mins with hardly anybody in there and just made the first race. Same two pubs use to take the fields down hours before the races finished so they could till up and just tell you to use self service, dont care if you want to cash a ticket, come back tommorow Auckland cup night, walk in the fields have been taken down and it was only 8pm!!! Couldnt get served friday night as it got busy (and it really was) and drinks take priority so had to travel to yet another pub just to deposit money a lot of us will remember when they first put the tab in pubs and seen the service just plummet and continually decline so much may aswell junk it into pokies, they even get priority over tab. you still see the odd hardened punting veteran at the tab but sometimes the service used to leave me frustrated now staring at a cardboard sign an empty tab and a pain in the ass machine that when the drinkers get on there for a bet leave you waiting for 5 mins or so while they try to figure out what they are doing, they think they are at a jukebox. After these type of things a $10 bonus bet where they keep the initial stake is not going to make me jizz in my pants from the excitement! but I didnt realise that you have to be signed up for promotions and thats why never recieved one till updated my id for brodies favourite aml act. I can admit though if I just organized things earlier then I wouldnt have to deal with these things and unlike Brodie dont have to worry about the fixed odds much and % betting has made trebles to cheap to get those really big divvies, quinella tri first 4 p6 plc6 not worth it to me So please keep investing in the quaddies and keep the pools up before this is a joke aswell, some of the returns for First 4 are so measly cause of the pools and can see the early quaddies heading that way.
