  1. Either way, that amounts to negligence imo. The information that Grierson supplied is available to all and it's implausible to me that experienced trainers and vets would not be aware of it.
  2. Well that's not what the NZVA guidlines say. They say after 12 iv doses, detection time is 3 days, so you'd have to take that up with Grierson if you think it's so far wrong.
  3. No. It's the established International Screening Limit (ISL). “The International Screening Limit (ISL) is the urine or plasma concentration adopted for the screening of a specified therapeutic prohibited substance; it is derived from administration studies followed by a risk analysis consisting of two components: a risk assessment (evaluation of the effect of the substance and factors related to its control) and a risk management (decision step for harmonisation).
  4. Yes, and the treating veterinarian should have passed on that advice when prescribing the medication though it's very surprising that trainers of their experience would not be aware of the necessary precautions. It is also strange that the case hasn't prompted Grierson and the NZEVA to add the detection time for oral and possibly transdermal flunixin to their recommended witholding times guide.
  5. Except this is supposedly not the treated horse and that applies to bedding contamination from excreted material, not rubbing noses or other transdermal transfer.
  6. No they didn't. That is for their May race days isn't it?
  7. Eh? This isn't cobalt. It's an anti-inflammatory. Way different story however unlikely it sounds.
  8. There's a bit of cross purpose when we are trying to retain our best 3yos to race in NZ more but the highest rated ones have to race overseas to valdate their rating for pattern race standards.
  9. From the 2023 report: The NZPC’s concerns with the WBRR ratings assigned to NZ 3yo races escalated during the 2022/23 season. NZ-derived ratings for horses rated >112 are subject to moderation by the APC handicappers. The NZPC holds significant concerns regarding this process. The 2022/23 crop of 3yo’s enjoyed unprecedented success and was regarded as the best in many years by experts across Australia and NZ. Conversely, NZ 6 3yo races in 2022/23 were moderated by APC handicappers to rate at their lowest level in some years. As a starting point, NZ 3yo ratings are at the bottom end of global norms unless the horse performs well overseas in the same season. Further, many NZ horses that race overseas achieve markedly higher ratings as older horses, clearly suggesting their earlier 3yo rating was unduly conservative. Examples abound. The WBRR Race Ratings used to evaluate race quality are appended as Section 6 of this Report. The NZPC decided to formalise a NZ Rating Review panel comprising the NZ Handicapper, a race ratings expert from the NZPC and one from outside the NZPC. This panel will assist in the assessment of WBRR ratings for NZ horses.
  10. Probably right given the Pattern Committee themselves are questioning the WBBR ratings of our 3yos.
  11. Read the rules then. https://nztr.co.nz/sites/nztrindustry/files/2023-05/STANDARDTRAININGAGREEMENT.pdf NZTR TRAINING AGREEMENT, NZTR CO-OWNER AGREEMENT AND NZTR LEASE AGREEMENT 1502 (1) The NZTR Training Agreement is deemed to apply between the Trainer and Owner of each horse (except Exempt Trainers and Exempt Owners), and such parties must comply with the agreement, subject to sub-Rule 1502(2).
  12. What? All owners and trainers have a training agreement don't they? It is pretty clear to me.
  13. Ask Longines. I'm just the messenger.

  16. Really, how? I thought I had been quite specific.
  17. As of March 10, she was rated the 7th best horse in the world by the WBBR, second best sprinter, 1 point behind Private Eye.
  18. Except that he NZ and Asian Pattern Committees and Longines agree with them.
  19. The fiasco continues. Foxton will again pick up the slack. Meeting News Waipukurau Trials Cancelled After an inspection of the Waipukurau track the decision has been made to cancel the trials scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday). This is due to some inconsistencies with the track surface. Alternative options are currently being investigated for later in the week.
  20. There is movement here. Though mainly at a more entry level than apprenticeships. Entain are the obvious partners for further development in the current context. They have the incentive to improve the product which clearly needs to include human as well as physical infrastructure. It's a shame that NZTR have not seen fit to invest the funding windfall more in both these areas. https://www.racingnews.co.nz/entain-partners-with-new-zealand-equine-academy/
  21. Couldn't the industry do the same, using DN's as a model? One say at Cambridge, Awapuni and Riccarton? The respective clubs could be initiating that alongside local trainers, the apprentice school etc.
  22. Pity we couldn't have them back doing that here.
  23. I remember when trainers used to say that a good apprentice was better than a good horse.
