Granting of a Jockey Licence to Matthew Cameron The NZTR Racing and Integrity Committee met on Monday 2 August 2023 to consider an application from Matthew Cameron to be relicensed as a Jockey.  As a result of his conviction on a charge of indecent assault (to which Mr Cameron pleaded guilty) in August 2022, Mr Cameron became a Prohibited Person within the meaning of the Rules of Racing. He was, however, able to apply to the Exemptions Committee (a Committee comprising representatives of the three racing Codes and a Chairperson appointed by the Codes) for an exemption from his prohibition under the Rules of Racing. Mr Cameron was granted an exemption by the Exemptions Committee on 1 September 2023. As part of its consideration of Mr Cameron’s application to be relicensed, the Committee sought advice from an independent expert on matters of racing integrity. The independent expert concluded that appropriate circumstances existed for Mr Cameron’s application to be favourably considered. After carefully considering all information available to it, the Committee agreed to grant Mr Cameron a Licence on the condition that he cannot resume race riding until he demonstrates (by riding trackwork, at jumpouts and at trial meetings) that he is in a fit state to do so as approved by the Racing Integrity Board. I have worked out Warren Kennedy and what makes him so successful. Besides a first class tactical brain he employs a bustling Billy Skelton style in the finish of his races which seems to wake his mounts up. He lifts them in the finish better than the whip.
