A big win for NACT ,that sends a message to Labour.

Trying to be Nat lite is a waste of time.

In 2 years will the Natz have met their election promises?

Will crime be down and gangs sidelined, will interest rates and inflation be tamed, will the economy grow and productivity increase, will health and education stats  improve ,will homelessness diminish,......I would confidently bet the answer to all these will be a resounding=NO!

Social unrest will be a feature of this NACT Govt which will govern for the wealthy .

Of course all blame for not meeting their goals will be the previous admins fault and the impact of international events.

Check back in 2 years....take it to..the bank.

One thing you can take to the bank.....Luck had absolutely zero to do with the result. Huge numbers of New Zealanders wanted Labour gone to a place far far away and that's exactly what they got. National and Labour are the two biggest parties so the dynamic created a mathematical inevitability. Labour out....National in.

There will be social unrest but that is also inevitable in this time. There are large numbers of wokestars along with "other" entitled out there that have been demanding they get their way for the last six years and getting it. They will be incredulous at a Government being in place now that doesn't just roll over and play dead for them. We can expect more tantrums than ever. World politics etc should also not be discounted in the area of social unrest.

Labour has left NZ well and truly divided. That will take decades to heal if it ever does. Political leanings have in many cases been pushed further to the right by intolerant lefties that victimize themselves and then blame anyone not sharing their bullshit divisive mantra.

Blaming National for the ongoing social unrest we'll see is akin to blaming the victims of a cyclone for the damage that's been done.

What was the alternative?

Labour has divided NZ by prioritizing Maori and beneficiaries etc and delivering virtually zero to everyone else.... except guilt and a less safe divided country.

They have treated successful hard working New Zealanders as the enemy who are to blame for the state our country is now in. They haven't got a clue about balance and earned their exit visas big time. Voting for more of the same was always going to be a fail.

Yes, wealthy successful people voted for National but as you know, NZ has a limited supply of wealthy successful people which means a lot of everyday kiwis also voted for them.

I note a number of these 'wealthy, successful' people owe their wealth to buying Govt owned assets on the cheap.Of course they want some more...and that is ACT's raison d'etre.

Finding it hard to see how 'successful, hardworking New Zealanders' have been treated as the enemy!

Unless you mean the parasitic landlord class who pay no CGT ,shut FHB's out of the market and resented legislation to make life better for renters, and became apoplectic about the ending of interest deductability.

NACT's fiscal figures do not compute, they know it,and you know, it but relentless race baiting and  inflaming a youth crime situation has lead to what will certainly be the most right wing Govt for decades.

A govt with not much discenable talent,no vision for the future and the Liz Truss 'tax cuts and 'grow the pie' slogans discredited in the U.K.

The country will never be the same..again.

"parasitic landlord class?" Clearly, to you, any hard working New Zealander that has a second property or more is a parasitic landlord ? Do you think using a one size fits all does you and your input any credit?

The funding for the tax cuts coming from taxing foreign house buyers was exposed as a "scam" which is outrageous for any political party, especially with a cornerstone policy. The fact this was ultimately overlooked by voters, such was their determination to send the inept and divisive Labour Government packing.

I normally stay away from whataboutisims but we should always remember we are talking about politicians that make careers out of making numbers say exactly what they want them to say.

Chris Hipkins told an outrageous lie about Primary Care Nurses during the second leaders debate that was contemptable and very deliberate.

You can predict the end of the world .....or you can just accept the people have spoken at the election and we will have a new Government for at least the next three years. If they are as bad as Labour, they will need to be woefully bad. If that's the case, we can convict them at that time.

The only blaming I'm doing is about Labour for throwing away their massive 2020 mandate and being so far king useless that they virtually forced the electorate to vote elsewhere.

You are being selective and assumptive...' Clearly, to you, any hard working New Zealander that has a second property or more is a parasitic landlord ?'

That is not what I said.I know many landlords that are proud that they are NOT hardworking and the passive income via CG'they enjoy is just a rational endeavour from an enterprise designed to make the rich richer.

Slogans like 'hardworking' and 'squeezed middle' are mere marketing b/s.

I accept the mood was for change ,for a number of real and imagined reasons.

NACT were not the choice of the majority..a common factor in NZ elections.

The wealthy will rejoice as they receive..their payoffs.

No.I believe I have an open mind regarding politics.Would not vote for the major parties.

Care to expand on anything that would suggest I am a 'closed book'?

You can believe Jesus Christ will return in November but that doesn't make it so.

I didn't want National to be the new Government but very much wanted to see the back of Labour.

What we have is a National led Government and with Labour sent packing. I got all of what I wanted and ironically, all of what I didn't want. The reason I didn't want National was connected only to their leader. I trust Luxon about as far as I can throw an elephant.

We live in a democracy so I accept what my fellow New Zealanders have voted for even if I didn't want that.  I'm not interested in fearmongering now the election has been won or lost. No sore or entitled losers. Let's just get on with making our beautiful country a better place for all of us.

Labour did some good while in office but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Labour has left NZ more divided than at any time during my life journey. Some areas needed to be handled very carefully. Labour, arrogantly drove a far king bulldozer over and through those areas. Their priorities were so wrong. Many kiwi's celebrate Labour's departure and say goodbye to Labour in the same elegant manner Damian O'Connor said goodbye to Jenna Lynch last week.

National has a big job on their hands. I wish them well.

You are akin to debating with a tree so the claim (made only by you) that you're an open book on Politics must surely be in jest. I had the audacity to share my take on Chris Hipkins. It's a view shared by many but you gifted me with my first ever thumbs down on BOAY over my input. You are at least consistent.  Anyone that shares your perspective must be right. Anyone with a different take on politics than you must therefor be wrong. That stands out like the proverbial dogs bollocks. ....so in terms of expanding why I believe you're a closed book is best done via paraphrase. "Everything"....Your bias oozes from every orifice.

You claim to be a reasonable person.Lets face it ,put the microscope on any Govt and you will find alot to criticise.

As for your observations, again just subjective assumptions.

You are too precious...you got a thumbs down..big deal-first time for everything.

Btw the thread title is cryptic...'Luxon'...get it!😉

I don't recall ever claiming to be a "reasonable person". I'm just me and reserve the right to be unreasonable if I so desire.

Haha @ "subjective assumptions"....virtually everything you say falls into that category.

I couldn't possibly care less about copping a thumbs down. My dinner still tastes the same and I slept the same number of hours I normally do. The reason I mentioned it was due to it being you that delivered that first thumbs down. What a shock...haha. The other irony was what you gave a thumbs down to. That being my feedback on Chris Hipkins during the election campaign. Had you been paying attention you would have noticed the sausage roll muncher copped a spanking on election day. Clearly, many other New Zealanders shared my take on David Cunliffe part 2.

I appreciate your butt is hurting after the election but just put some cream on it, learn which way is up and return with more of your scintillating repartee....aka... insomnia cure :)

Forgive me...I thought this was the viewpoint of a 'reasonable' person-'I'd hoped we could have a constructive sharing of perspectives on the election even if we disagree with each other. Clearly, that's a bridge too far for some. '

This post of yours confirms you didn't really mean it!

1-'subjective assumptions=you did it..too!

2-longwinded explanation about thumbs down...who fuckin cares!

3-reference to not noticing the election result and being 'butt hurt'=ludicrous...as I've said I did not vote for Labour.

You and the Chief would make a great tag team....all form...no substance.😉

You're forgiven H.R but please try and retain at least some of your dignity. You're just looking foolish and bitter now.

Yes, I did post a thread several weeks prior to the election and spoke about sharing perspectives constructively. Apart from an odd exception :) ... that occurred but I have no desire to be a school master standing over the naughty ones. You've already been humiliated enough and this thread is post election so the same guidelines were not in play.

As an aside, why did you feel compelled to use an obscenity when that was completely unwarranted?......unless of course you know you've made a fool of yourself in the debate and frustration has got the better of you. In that case, put an extra dose of cream on that hurt butt of yours.

Reminds me of Groucho.....'if you don't like my principles...I do have...others'!😁

@holy ravioli any rational person would give you the award for BOAY's Most Deluded.

Instead of throwing insults just sit down have a cup of tea and face the reality that you have at least another 3 years of living with a right of centre Government.
