Jock Caddigan had nothing to lose and said catch me if you can. Despite slowing the last bit Kotare Chief ran  a phenomenal time of 3:16.63. A time when NZ stayers were indeed true stayers.

Holy cow, it is jam packed.

I was there when Uncle Remus won the Derby in 1977.  He went many lengths clear at the top of the straight, and everyone stood and just applauded as he galloped effortlessly to the finish, made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up

La Mer beat Uncle Remus in the 1978 International Stakes at Te Rapa, ending his 10 straight winning runs. Unfortunately, Uncle Remus was struck by a wind affliction and never won another race.

Sorry to put a dampener on things...but how was the drug testing going in those days?

Go outside and dampen yourself with petrol.

You are such a wanker T, a completely baseless statement for which you are well known.

I don't know but from all accounts the drugs played havoc with you. Now being looked after by Her Royal Rubberness, Princess Blowup.

It was just simply called a paddock trained super fit horse with a daring ride!!

The only thing in the water at Wairere Lodge was "whisky with no ice"!!!?

Oh bazzo...

I knew I'd hook you again...line and sink her included...

KC did return a POSITIVE SWAB after winning...

Now the question remains did the Feds have a test for Elephant juice in those days...

...and its hugely ironic that Laurie Connell's horse ROCKET RACER won the Perth Cup that day...as easily as KC did...

...and nearly died after the race with too much Trunk Juice in him....but couldn't be swabbed...

A simple question...were our Feds testing for Trunk Juice that day?

Yes KC tested positive to Hordenine. However, taken orally as in food it was not illegal. 8 other horses that week also tested positive and it was found that a feed merchant had added willow branches and leaves to the feed mix. Hordenine injected into a horse will increase heart rate and alertness etc but the effect only lasts 20 minutes. Orally, it has little effect.

"Hordenine is an ingredient of some plants which are used as feed for animals, i.e. in sprouting barley. After ingestion of such feed hordenine may be detected in blood or urine of horses which in case of racing horses may be the facts of using prohibited compounds. Results of some experiments in pharmacological models show that hordenine is an indirectly acting adrenergic drug. It liberates norepinephrine from stores. In isolated organs and those structures with reduced epinephrine contents the hordenine-effect is only very poor. Experiments in intact animals (rats, dogs) show that hordenine has a positive inotropic effect upon the heart, increases systolic and diastolic blood pressure, peripheral blood flow volume, inhibits gut movements but has no effect upon the psychomotorical behaviour of mice. All effects are short and only possible after high doses which are not to be expected after ingestion of hordenine containing feed for horses. A measurable increase of the performance of racing horses is quite improbable."

It's a simple fact of life...not that you'd know a fact...even if a hot babe sat on your face...

...where there's money there'll be cheats...

Thoroughbred types cheat less here...

You only have to observe the Harness and Dorg types at a bar to observe what drug addled, drunk and out of bogan control they are...

...just get Bogan Bazz to send you a pik...it's a wonder he follows the Thoroughbreds...

...but this code does have some gay pretenders...even some Reemers Lawyers are crooks
