Cambridge tried to plug the financial hole for “The Race” by running a raffle last year! We had raffles every Saturday at Rocklea. was a lot of fun and the on-course punters took home something . love the old raffle lol... Hey they're running a Trotters Slot race this year . So can't be as 'Dire' as you say or they wouldn't be introducing it. Just a gift for the Aussie dual Interdominion Champ JUST BELIEVE anyway. I think if the slot races were in the South Island you would enjoy them. They've been great .Aussies have turned up . (but beaten by Self Assured and Copy That so far) Punting on the race has been good. crowds on the day well entertained. You NEED BIG money races . Owners or corporate people or whoever putting money up is GREAT> Horses cost a lot to run these days as you have mentioned previously (was $30,000 per year that we worked out ? can't remember. A lot here grizzling about the INvercargill people racing for $100,000 for one day of the year. For the OPEN class best horses around. Fricken gallopers race for that every week somewhere. The open class Need good prizemoney to aspire too. otherwise they'll just be sold off to WA mates, like all the Southerners have been doing for years and years already. (to race in West Australia for the good stake money ) Robin Butt and others (kiwi owners) even race their horses there themselves already with Hall and that. you guys shooting yourself in the foot there Not racing for good stakemoney. The Race is changing that . what a good thing to help save the Day . Go The Race !!! lol...🏆💰

Cambridge are giving it a go but I am sure they can not afford to run it under the current set up and it may go to Addington in a year or two? Doesnt really bring that much excitement although media might paint it like it does! What we need is to entice new people into owning and punting and by running a race that only the corporations and wealthier owners to participates doesnt achieve this! Anyway good luck to the winner! I think the Everest has a lot of that sort of comment as well. But still a good race to win anyway. The way I see it , this Micro share thing has been well tried (20 shares per horse type thing) and I think it actually puts people off ultimately .Gallops and trots.. Even if it wins a race they end up with a cheque for just a few hundred dollars , with the poor prizemoney races they are stuck in . they'll still get their bill for a few hundred each month too 😆. For the Race by Grins ,personally with the Aussie horses turning up and the best horses in the land turning up (QUESTIONmark on Betterzippit fitting that criteria 😂😎 winning the 1/2 million in WA one) BUT you definitely had some 'good' ones in those 2 Cambridge Grins Races run so far... so I found that 'Bringing the Excitement'.. guess that's just my problem though 😪

Brodie
Same issue again today at Motukarara, and crowd nowhere near as big as the pre New Year meeting! Watch harness Racing Unhinged video today to see just how bad Nigel Armstrong feels about the issue! Where is the TAB response? All is good as there was a big crowd on course! News for them is that it is the picnickers that are there and you need punters there, as that is your bread and butter! You need to look after them far better!
