With the racing industry owning so much real estate the new location will probably be rental. Although the distance to the airport is quite short international travel will still be through Auckland. Auckland has a far greater pool of potential staff and it has to be queried the staff relocation costs to Cambridge. NZTR at Ellerslie would have had a much higher profile than Cambridge and closer to corporate head offices. Like to hear why Cambridge was chosen and if Ellerslie racecourse was ever considered.

Quite often the question was asked as to why Petone was where HQ was stationed when there was ample room and parking at Trentham.

Good question. What actual benefit will it be to trainers, owners for them to be based in Cambridge? How much did the move cost?

Freda
The reason given - as I recall - was the access to more ' horse focused ' personnel than were readily available in the urban Wellington catchment.
Muzza
Absolute waste of time and money, with todays technology Wellington was fine. Chief could be right. Closer to other things.

I asked the question regarding the cost as relocation costs can be very expensive, and staff not moving have redundancy payouts.
Special Agent
During Covid it was okay to work away from the Petone office, including members of the Racing Bureau working from home. Now it is essential to be near a racing hub. Heard of the internet??!! Another sad part is that the racing governing body has moved from a building they owned on The Terrace to renting part of a floor at TAB head office in Petone, now to renting a whole building for what seems a much larger compliment of staff. The industry is going down the gurgler, trainers and others are cutting costs to stay in the game, yet the governing body gets up and runs off on a whim at whatever expense it takes. 4
