Doesn't matter much if there's not enough on there to provide a cushion or if it's not evenly groomed to cover the substrate. This is from the finish of the last at Awapuni a week ago. It's supposed to have 175mm of top mix and the sand should not be separated out. Didn't get the HD of this but it sure doesn't look good.

Did the Stewards walk the track for safety prior to racing?  Or do they assume that because it is a synthetic surface they don't need to?

Good question but you'd certainly hope so. Mainly to check the grooming has the surface fully mixed and hasn't dragged it off the substrate in places as it appears to have here. Can we find out?

My biggest concern about the AWT tracks has been maintenance.  Weekly but more importantly daily and between races.

Although we fail to look after our turf tracks at least they have a wider tolerance.

If they had wouldn't they have picked up the problem and rectified it?

I don't see how that could be 'rectified' the morning of the races.

Yeahh, if as it looks probably needed maybe 50+mms more polytrack mix, remixing and maybe re-waxing. Hard to do that between races or on race morning.

So presumably it happened overnight?  Was the track groomed in the morning?  Did the grooming cause the problem.

I don't agree that it was a difficult problem to avoid or fix in a short space of time.
