Dollars to stakes paid

Some interesting statistics from meetings recently.

For every dollar paid to Wellington on/off course turnover was $2.68

.For Ellerslie the next day it was $4.77

At Reefton, it was $7.14; for Kumura, it was $9.88.

I know the Coast is looking for another day to add to the circuit and with these figures you would think they have a strong case but I am told all the submissions put up by the Coast have been thrown in the rubbish bin.

It makes you wonder if we have the right people to make Racing more sustainable for the betterment of Racing.

When the new NZTR CEO is announced you will have your answer. Or looking at it another way by the time we get to the new season in 6 months  you will know if there is any real drive and determination for significant change

Couple of interesting articles about Entain in The Times today. Their auditors are being investigated for a pretty suspect job. And Entain has just closed down the Greyhound track they own in London. London's second last Greyhound track. The track is worth more to Entain if sold to property developers than kept as a race track.

Based on that, you imagine Entain would be totally in favour of the policy of selling off as many tracks as possible, taking the money and centralising everything. The last thing they would want would be an extra day on the Coast.

Not only that but the first two meetings get extra promo from Entain like the KMs will also , so it's not even close to being a level playing field in that respect.

I've heard some clubs have been put on notice by NZTR with regards to the Racing Act land grab , so expect it to only get worse.

There is no way a new CEO will not be on board with this.

Rest assured they have no idea about Racing but they are happy to steal to keep the Ponzi scheme going.

Have clubs had this in writing Huey?  What sort of clubs would be interesting as some of the worst performing have the most valuable land.

It would be interesting to know which clubs are sitting on the most valuable land. Some tracks rent their land or are on racecourse reserve type arrangements where the land can't be sold with the money going to outsiders if the clubs are closed down. Often the land reverts to the local community.

As special agent says above, the worst performing clubs are often the ones with the most valuable land.

I wonder how Fielding feels these days having sold off their track and handed most of the money over to Awapuni. The Franklin trots might be an example of what could happen to anyone taken in by bigger more favoured clubs.

I'd say Ellerslie, Avondale, Awapuni and Riccarton (even the small amount left still owned by the club).  Not sure about Pukekohe.  All would be worth squillions more than the country courses preferred for selling.

They are only stealth stealing the land for sale proceeds , so pretty obvious which clubs will interest them.

Some of the land values no more than a TA MM shopping spree.

Yes I understand a few have , well the process set to begin.  You know how it works they label it working with the clubs or something.

Was it Mark Twain who coined the phrase Lies , Damned Lies and Statistics ?

What's the conclusion from your Data Analysis.....two  small clubs who race once a year in the holiday season against two city tracks who hold many of NZ's Group and high stake races.

Ellerslie races 20 plus times a year Trentham about 10.

Should many of these City meetings be moved to the West Coast. ??......should Reefton be moved to Kumara, the town with 285 residents usually does twice the Turnover of Reefton and Greymouth. ?

Kumara oncourse does 3 x oncourse what the other 2 do.....so close in dates, does this mean the other 2 x Coast towns do a lousy job ??

Did your calculations allow for the 'extra' money that goes to Clubs in order for them to run their meetings ?

Jockey Tina Comignaghi won 5 x races at Reefton ...probably earned around $2,500 from winning stakes .Had she won 5 x races at Trentham including the 2 x group ones she could have earned up to $36,000. Sometimes life is just not fair .

Maybe if there was no Group races ,with decent stakes there would be no horses to race on the Coast cos many of those horses start off in pursuit of Group racing in the North...at Kurow it was 8 of 10 winners and many also rans and I'm confident the Coast was similar.

Would racing in NZ today survive if every race had the same stake or would Owners head to Australia ??

Maybe it is as described ....A big Ponzi Scheme .
