Special Agent
Thank you for putting those interviews up. The take from others on what was said differs from my own. Kate was talking about the running rail at Wanganui, not using senior riders in assessing the track at Hastings, and jockeys' decisions overall when deciding if tracks are safe enough to race on. I haven't heard anyone in person bagging jockeys for not riding. I think most jockeys would agree about running rails being in the true position and most who visit this site would agree there are not enough tracks. None of it is rocket science. Administration just needs to listen to the people of the industry who live and breathe it.
Chief Stipe
Interesting there is a new protocol for determining whether to continue or not. Each Jockey is interviewed individually alone. Each Jockey is asked... Not sure if that is a RIB or NZTR protocol or how it is done. I also picked up that there are policies around moving the fence to avoid a bad part of the track. Chief Stipe
22 minutes ago, Special Agent said: not using senior riders in assessing the track at Hastings In my opinion Hercock's comments about Hastings didn't correlate with what happened. Did Jockeys actually gallop the track in the morning? She said they were "uneducated riders". Uneducated in what way? The slip was past the post (assuming she is talking about HB Guineas day). I doubt a gallop along the inside of the track early in the morning would have found the part where the horse slipped which was wider out and on the bend past the winning post. Also her comment about her horse not letting down - well couldn't that happen for a number of reasons?

Chief Stipe
3 minutes ago, curious said: What? The stipes interview every individual jockey? Listen to the Stipes video above. I'm sure that's what he said. "Each Jockey was asked individually". I'm not sure if that's just going around the room and asking each one in the room or talking to each one individually. I corrected my post. Not sure what the protocol is.

Special Agent
Darin Balcombe talked about this at one of the road shows but, I'd say these protocols are changing quite often. Listening to what Bevan Sweeney said happened whilst he was in the room, and putting two and two together, it sounds like there is a conflab between jockeys behind closed doors then when they go in with the Stipes they might ask each jockey around the room whether they feel it's safe to ride, or not. As mentioned 16 yes'es or no's isn't going to take long.
Special Agent
If you hadn't ridden in the first you must be guided by someone whose opinion you trust. Only Jonathan Riddell and Kate Hercock appeared to be checking the track. I think they were worthy jockey representatives and you'd imagine what they suggested would be accepted.
