Brodie
Does anyone actually know how harness clubs are funded for the races that they run nowadays? Just looking through Wednesday’s Timaru meeting on the grass, and note that of the 9 carded races there are 5 that have a stake of 10k! How much funding would Timaru be receiving for each of those races at Washdyke and is there a minimum stake now or can they put up what they want? Seems very odd when the poorly performing Palmerston North are running all their races for more than 10k?? Much easier to win at Palmy than in Canterbury where multiple winning horses are being forced to race for less than Palmy! Seems very unfair for Palmy to be receiving more stake money from HRNZ than Timaru if this is the case, as they are supplying a far inferior product?? Midfrew
Brodie simple, most non-metro meetings funded $10,500, $11,500 or $12,500 per race depending on meet status plus meeting operating costs. Club can re-arrange stakes funding as it sees fit, provided that over the season 100% is paid as stakes. Enjoy an historic grass track meeting on what some experts are saying in the best surface in the country.

It's a shame a club see fit to fund arguably the best earners to our industry, e.g older horses who start more frequently in bigger fields the least .Very hard to understand the logic and would welcome a response from any club doing this but to be fair I won't hold by breath.

So Timaru Club have effectively decided for this grass track meeting to put some money away for later in the season stakes? Personally believe that Entain should be holding back a thousand or two per race for racing outside the 5 year guarantee. They should not be blowing as much as they are on many of the races that are happening .I am of the firm opinion that Entain really are not a very well run business especially with many of their decisions that they are making! Racing in New Zealand I would say is in a very bad financial position in the future with Entain controlling the purse strings, if you go by a-lot of what they have been doing. On another subject. I'm not a facebook person, nor ever will be. But i used to be able to watch your videos by just googling unhinged harness racing. Doing that used to show the videos posted in the last week or at least saw most of them. Nowdays it seems restricted to only the last 3. Was that a deliberate move? Maybe the newly formed National Bureau will over see the allocation of stakes and stop the discrimination of our best income producers, here's hoping.
