What Next For Jetbet?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so we now have an updated betting platform that punters can access on laptops, android, iphone, tablets etc. Some like it, others not, but I am sure as everyone gets used to it, hopefully speeds up a little, which to be honest, app is better today than yesterday, but if it is more reliable on major race days, most would see it as a step forward. Which leads me to my question, what next for the outdated Jetbet terminals at outlets and on course? Obviously, no upgrades will be made to them, will they be phased out? In the future will the odd outlet just have a self serve terminal, and will we see this on course as well?

I am sure some will have views on this, but clearly the $50m spent on this latest upgrade was to improve punters spending on sports, but i have doubts regarding racing.

Also, will people bet even more on devices while at the races, with even less back to clubs?

Just a few thoughts,

Excellent post Newmarket.

Ironic that the only place too difficult to bet is the racetrack when one is socialising and not into squinting at the phone, filling in complicated forms or queing up only to miss out getting on.

THere are some relatively simple solutions but it needs the basics of getting the TAB honchos out of the racetrack and allowing private innovations to be put forward. I'll expand on that later.

It is plain silly for clubs to not receive the same amounts for on course and off course betting. People are betting on their programme and their domicile should not come into it.

The original idea was to boost on course attendances and get folk involved in the industry but that idea went down the drain when competition between clubs was wiped out and what was an important day for the local population became a ho-hum mid week yawn.

Unless 'grass roots' racing and competition between clubs is restored we are galloping into the sunset.

I've got three top proposals however the difficulty is when you've got big wigs with small ideas getting someone interested takes a lot of preparation writing things up etc otherswise they won't listen to you. Then you've got to put up with the "what have you done in racing"  ( you know who I mean)  brainwashers its not easy if ones got a good idea getting it looked at.

Quite frankly one of the proposals in theory could blow the TAB bookie system out of the water. One of the reasons I've been staunch in saying the $50M spendup is a total waste.

Just on the gimmicky side I'd like to see video interaction with the head TAB bookie oncourse. Probably the next best thing to having a real bookie oncourse.

Dead right. I know for a fact that when i visit a racecourse, all my betting is on an iphone, majority betfair & beteasy, but a slice is bet on nz tab.

When you are using nz tab app, they can see where we are using it, so surely tab can easily see who is using app on course, so they should get a slice of the action. Go back 5 years, i only ever bet at nz tab, and when on course, every bet would go through operator.

Looking forward 10 years, i can only see the major carnivals surviving, it will be a sad day, but tab have shown they are only interested in sports betting.
