Ōtaki Raceday Postponed

Ōtaki Raceday Postponed

Sunday’s Ōtaki racemeeting has been postponed after an inspection found the track surface was not safe for racing. NZTR suspects sections of the track may have suffered intentional turf damage. The damage appears to be an act outside of the Club's control and investigations are now underway. NZTR and the Club are assessing rescheduling options and will provide updates as soon as possible.

Ōtaki Raceday Postponed Due to Track Condition

Please note the correction to racemeeting date.

Following a full inspection of Ōtaki Racecourse this morning involving the Racing Integrity Board and Regional Track Managers, it has been determined that the surface is not in a safe condition to host racing. As a result, Sunday’s scheduled meeting (4 May) at Ōtaki Racing Club has been postponed.

NZTR suspects that sections of the track may have suffered intentional turf damage, which has compromised the safety of the racing surface. The damage, upon inspection, appears to be an act outside of the Club's control. Investigations are underway to determine the cause and NZTR is working closely with the Otaki-Māori Racing Club and relevant authorities to support this process.

The safety of horses and participants remains NZTR’s top priority. NZTR and the Club are currently assessing the possibility of rescheduling the meeting and will provide further updates to participants as soon as possible.

I see on the other site that Scooby has now decided that NZTR's assessment of the damage as probable vandalism is malicious gossip.

So he disagrees with the official communique?  Plonker.

I've been worried about this for a while.  With all the publicity that abandonments have been getting it wouldn't take the anti-mob long to work out where the industry's soft spot is.

Apparently the Comic Dog has "sources"...  Verti-draining wouldn't cause the problem in my opinion.

This is all going to get messy.  Trainers are NOT track managers and it is a bit late to be moaning now.

Whatever the comic dog's sources, my local sources say it was roundup or equivalent right across the straight.

Hang on a minute.

Why is the Otaki race meeting from out of the area being thrust upon Hawera on the 6th when they have their own meeting on the 18th?

What do you mean "out of the area"?  It's the wonderous CD all working together!

Put the rail out all the way round and save the inside.  A 12 day turnaround shouldn't be a problem.  Isn't that what they used to do in the "good old days"?!

Float fare Otaki to Hawera return $800 - $1000.  I call that out of the area.

Float fare Otaki to Woodville?

I don't get it - on the one hand you want more of the country tracks utilised but when they are you criticise it.

Not to mention how many actually train at Otaki anymore.
