Is the jockey board on the right of the winning post? Appears to be on the left to me, but I am getting older.

H'mm looks right as I'm looking at the photo and I'm only on coffee.

Now one of the interesting horses of the Brown/Skelton combo was Final Orders. Came to Hawera around 1967 for first start kept quiet in training but smashed on the tote by a few in the know. Magnificent chestnut who won his first 4 starts but I can't remember what happened after.

The racetrack probably Awapuni but maybe Masterton. Can't figure it out.

I'm intrigued with the Loveracing photo.  Where is it? Whose colours is Bill Skelton wearing. What horse has just run?

Bill Skelton's wife kept a meticulous record of her husbands career and would've known those colours but died last year.

May not have raced again after winning the four in succession but did sire a few handy gallopers including Shudup who won 12 including the Champagne Stakes, Great Easter and Canterbury Challenge Stakes.

Final Orders won a double at Trentham one year. Shudup was out of Natter [ a Riccarton horse from Tutton barn ] who won the NZ Oaks.

Of course Bill rode a lot of Syd's horses and Syd had some very good ones.

Daryl's Joy was stand out and trail blazer , along with Weenell ,Woodcourt Inn etc  etc as the article states.

The lack of people in photo would suggest the ride had not been a successful one and a post mortem in progress.

3 x piece suit ,maybe not the heat of summer, but around the early sixties when several of those CD meetings like Marton raced on their own track . I'd m\lead to one of the 'lesser' CD tracks tho dividend board looks substantial.

Looks like Final Orders must have broken down before getting to Australia.

Some great reads on the calameo.com web site. I suggest everyone bookmark the site.

For Syd Brown article go to page 34 of https://www.calameo.com/read/000373495c30f2eb30895

Sad but not unexpected Syd Brown passing at 99. Also a passing of a great era in racing.

Now the jockey board being positioned to the right of the winning post adds to the puzzle.

Any takers.
