Chief Stipe Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Great to see the Steeplechases over real hedge fences at Te Aroha today. Not sure about the riding though. Jockeys seem to leap off more than horses falling over! Those that say horses don't like jumping only have to look at the horse that lost a Jockey early in the first round and proceeded to jump the rest of the fences and complete the course! Must find out its name for next time! 1 Quote

They are quite spectacular. They recently had the 2025 Grand National with a capacity field of 34. Won by 'Nick Rockett' trained in Ireland by Willie Mullens and ridden to victory by his son Patrick. 2nd home was last years winner 'I Am Maximus'. Imagine getting around that course twice ? 16 of the 34 starters completed the course this year . 4 fallers (all ok after) , 1 lost rider, 13 Pulled up. Quote
Chief Stipe Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Two Jumps races today and not one horse fell! Even over the BIG Steeples! 1 Quote
TAB For Ever Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Clearly you jest Chief ! The jumping was very inaccurate and a number of jockeys either tipped from their seats or catapulted into the air. Watching Sandown ,Victoria feature jumps day yesterday and toward end of main chase a horse obviously bust a hind leg which was not pleasant viewing....it deleted from replay. Interesting that Sandown watered the jumps course only to get it to slow 7 and seemed to do it evenly and effectively. Jumps racing certainly adds interest to Winter viewing and most of us remember some great races in past but surely its days are numbered. Kiwis enjoy watching them but very few bet on them and though some trainers are dedicated to the cause , the horse numbers dropping for various reasons not the least the fact that they take extra time /patience and cost to own and participate .Then there is the jockey shortage ! If KMyers packed it in it would most likely be finished even sooner ! And finally , the good spectacle from Te Aroha shows how smooth the transition from Ellerslie has been managed ,and a good thing for most concerned ! And yes ,I have shares/interests in a couple of jumpers so I do my bit plus I'll bet a few $$$ on em ! 1 Quote

I think they have finished in all the Aussie states bar Victoria now TABman. I loved going to great Northern Day at Ellerslie as a kid and seeing Kenny Browne leading them over that big hill a couple of times. Couldn't do that now without hurdling people's new back yard fences I spose . Horse would be pissed off having to jump every 20m lol 😁. could be the odd swimming pool hazard as well 🤣 . Not much different to the Melbourne Cup for risk to horses anyway. We've seen many favoured runners coming to grief in that including Favourites which would of had thousands of people supporting them > I.e Dulcify, Admire Rakti and even more recently favs Cliffs of Moher and Anthony Van Dyck also met the MC undertaker. Perhaps the jumping is safer because they go slower ?? Sandown seemed safe (like NZ tracks) with lots of water on like you suggested. perhaps the (MC)🏆 could drop back to 2400m really like they have done with the Brisbane Cup🏆. Melbourne Cup sure has a high attrition rate with runners ( and runners preparing for it too) on the firmer Spring tracks Quote

Over half the jumpers at recent iconic Bool jumping meet were Kiwis , and some of my interests are in Aussie. From memory ,A Good Fight , Leaderboard ,Lincoln ???? all featured in the big Aussie Jumps features last year and of course JWheeler and KMyers among others have dominated Aussie jumps over the years ! Currently MWalker must have 5 or 6 jumpers in his Victorian stable ,while BScott has a couple too.Maybe the Harnetts too ! The jumps over the Hill were memorable ...indeed ..... but they estimated each time over it cost over $1 mill bucks so thinking ahead the Club could see the writing on the Hill so sold out to future proof the clubs finances. It wasn't the Club who stuffed racing it was the participants...they became too hard for trainers ,too hard for owners , too hard for jockeys and too hard for most Clubs. There are still many ,many Hunt clubs around NZ ,point-to-points etc . Several ex-jumps trainers post on social media and bemoan the demise of jumps racing but it was their lot that killed it ! Quote

STERN IDOL now 11 wins from 22 over jumps for Maher. But your kiwi mate Mr Walker did get 2nd with LEADERBOARD ok. The Australian Hurdle went to the Payne Siblings Michelle and Patrick who now co-train the team these days. A beautiful Grey horse for them, named THE CUNNING FOX has made it 6 starts for 6 Wins over the sticks . Michelle the feature of the Movie 'Ride Like A Girl' that shows like with ex-pat kiwi Paddy Payne and all his children after his wife was tragically killed in a car accident. What a great racing family they are. love those horse racing movies. The one (movie) on Ollie winning 'The Cup' on Media Puzzle pretty good too. Quote

MBA.....Major Bullshit Artist ! geez Tab 4 mate, you should be careful as carrying the name TAB around here has it's downside. Brodie thinks TAB stands for Total Absolute Bullshit , with the way he believes he is treated by them. You wouldn't want to get mixed up with that lot.😋😎 1 Quote

Unlike other places where @Thomass is not allowed he has never been banned here. Even when @Pete Lane and @hesi were demanding it. Not that I agree with his posts about Wanganui but he is probably a Wellington Racing Club member and they only point the finger at others. Quote
Gammalite Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago This is quite something. You probably had it on here at the time 6 years ago Chief , but some Might not of seen this incredible Win.
