With only 8 races today at Riccarton, why not one maiden to make 9, not that many grass track opportunities around Christchurch at present.

Me picking the best track of all for the Winter today at Oamaru, shame no more racing there until June, shame fields are a bit light as well.

Fields are ok considering what is about and the stakes. Hardly any scratchings. Crazy the track isn't used more often. 16 days until the next grass track meeting in the SI. When you consider the number of active Southland horses at the moment Oamaru should be a vital option to give them opportunities.

Track was in superb condition and a grand spring day as well.

These are the days vital for the 2 or 3 larger trainers in the South, many of the others simply don't get going for a while, this months a bit odd with 5 Saturdays, same as last year, Riccarton raced on 4 but one less this time, could have slotted another in somewhere.
