jess Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Wonder if Freda or some other learned racing person could answer my query. I notice that sometimes when the noms for a race come out, there are, say, 8 horses. Then when the fields come out suddenly there are, say, 11 or 12 (and I'm not talking about those races where NZTR has specified that noms are to remain open for an extended period). Just wondering how you have to have your noms in by a certain deadline - they are soon after listed on the website - then somehow a bunch of extras show up when the fields are published after acceptance time? Thanks ... Jess . Quote

Freda Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Jess, I am a lot less learned than you give me credit for. I am left wondering about all sorts of things unfortunately. Quote

Yes and those extra nominations are not published between the first nominations and field selection. If NZTR had a decent computer system then the nominations could be published and updated in real time as they arrive. Not that I can see any advantage to doing so. Quote

I have no idea if they are or aren't. If they are available and updated in real time then they must only be available in a system accessed by trainers or @jess assertion is inaccurate. Regardless which trainer has the time to sit there and watch nominations being updated or is there a "cool down" period between noms closing the fields being declared. LOL I thought according to some that NZ Trainers didn't have the luxury of picking and choosing the races they start their charges in. Quote

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know, late nominations for races left open usually close at 9am on withdrawal day. The handicapper then declares the weights and those are then published on the Loveracing site before withdrawals close at 10am. I would think most trainers would monitor those before accepting as the weights may affect jockey options which have to be declared by 1pm. Quote

Well back to the original post then there is no issue other than a perceived one. Correct? The point about weight is interesting though. 🤔 Quote

Not as far as I know but someone like @Freda can probably more reliably confirm or otherwise. I'm certainly aware of situations where say a late nom of an R80 horse in a R75 race, means the weights are compressed significantly and a horse down the handicap is suddenly carrying 54 rather than the expected 56 unleashing a frenzied couple of hours looking for a suitable rider that can make the weight. LOL then the late nomination is scratched? Quote
