Weasel Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I see this former champion apprentice jock in Sydney is in NZ for Karaka Million night and has some rides. Anyone have any views on her riding style/recent form/reputation? Quote
mardigras Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I've nothing negative to say. She hasn't had the greatest opportunities of late so her recent form may look worse than it is. She's bounced back from difficulty in the past. May just need to get some confidence back. Quote

A media report disagrees..do I believe them or you, Thomass? Hmmm...let me see.... Her father John Calvert rode until increased weight brought his career to an end, while her aunty is successful 1980s apprentice Cathy Costin. Quote
SLB2.0 Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 I'm pretty sure I read she got lippy with Gai Waterhouse, which is why you haven't seen her riding in Sydney nearly as much as she used to. Quote

She and Gai had a falling out, so Winona transferred to the Snowdens, winning the Sydney apprentice rider championship (2014-15);; apparently she is makig a comeback after some difficult months recently following injuries sustained in race falls (incl 2 broken wrists. Had 2 rides on Karaka Million night; finished 4th in the Concorde (Rikki Tikki Tavi) and 6th in the 2yo feature (Beauty Diva). 1 Quote
Weasel Posted January 30, 2019 Author Posted January 30, 2019 ..and Winona is Sydney-based but will come to NZ for good rides. I see she rode a winner yesterday at 120-1 odds Quote
