I do have to agree with the original post. Would probably have run third if better ridden. I can never understand jockeys who drag horses so wide on the turn covering so much extra ground and losing all momentum.

I think most people who have some level of race reading would agree it was a 2 out of 10 ride, but the jockey has said he made a mistake. So i will let it go

yes, he won a Rowe Cup at Auckland off 10m 1981 . was there that night to see the great horse go . we had one in it and it ran last lol. It was retirement race for No Response, and he went out with a Bang for your buck😁💰  . The Rowe Cup being NZ's feature trot.

No Response won just about every Big trot going and incredibly didn't race till he was a 6 year old.  winning 12 of his 16 starts including the Interdominion Grand Final,  in just his second year of racing , as a spritely 7 year old.

You're thinking of the Interdominion Grand Final at Addington 1979,  where he roared home from the back of the field to beat the 2 Australian trotters,  and claim a fabulous win for New Zealand.  weaving his way through field, as you said. a fabulous trotter.

Richard Brosnan moved to Aus 2018 , so to train with his son Emmett in Victoria,  and they won the trot Interdominon Trot Final once again,  training the winner Maori Law just 3 years ago ,along with Emmett . 42 years after his first one with No Response.  Maori Law driven to victory by the Late great Greg Sugars at Menangle .

Top horse, and great memories, had a look at the addington win on utube, yes the other race would have been rowe cup, heck we had some greatctrotters in that era,  Basil Dean another favourite of mine. Sorry all for the change of tack.

I'd have given him a 4 or 5.  He needed to make a split second decision when he missed the start to go to the inside but I'm sure he had the Trainers instructions still at the forefront of his mind which was to get handy from the wide draw.  He hesitated and three horses got inside him.  No real option after that but to go wide in clear air or wait for a gap up the middle.

It's a bit like hitting the Headquarters bar with a plan then hesitating when you see the gorgeous blonde on her own.  You spend the rest of the night looking for gaps.

Didn't know you frequented HQ?

Hindsight is a great thing, but surely he could have seen the 2 Waller horses inside of him and thought things had not gone as expected, so Plan B would be to get on to the back of the best horse in the race and ride for luck, That is what I would have expected from a jockey of some abilty to do.

True but he had three horses inside him and would have had to hook the horse back.  I think it was literally a split second he got wrong.  They all do it.  I've seen Jmac ride some real stickers.

Give a clue to us battlers, what disguise got you past the security?

I just looked important, reached down and shook the hand of the little guy in the colourful clothes (clown suit?) and walked on in.  Not as easy as Cowboys in the past I might add.

Do not worry about the pram. But the good-looking Lady, now we are talking the same language, so long as it is not one of your throw-away Ladies😋. I have never been a fan of 2nd hand goods.

Does it matter when we are just trying to get you past security?
