Trojan Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Is this a bit of daft programming or are there plenty of 3 yr old filles ready to run? Both the NZ 1000 Guineas Grp 1 (3yr old fillies) and the Canterbury Breeders Stakes Grp3 (fillies and mares) are run on the same day! The first day of Cup week - 8 November. Quote
curious Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago It does seem a bit odd alright. You'd think they'd have moved the Breeders to Cup day when they moved the 1000 Guineas to the first day. Quote
Chief Stipe Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Perhaps they are turning it into a girls day promotion. @Huey will be in. Quote
TAB For Ever Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago From memory I can't recall too many horses doubling up in these races. Plus the Breeders Stakes and Coupland Mile in similar distance range has clashed for many years . Quote
hesi Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The new NZB Kiwi slot race and Derby are on the same day. Some will say that one is a 1500m race the other 2400m. But looking back over the years, the good 3 year olds were running well over 1600m in Dec and Jan, then the ones with staying potential tested over more ground in the Waikato and Avondale Guinieas as a potential lead up to the Derby. All that will happen, is that many of these early promising horses will get snapped up for slots, and their preparation changed to aim at the Kiwi, cannibalising the Derby. 1 Quote
