Kopia
Tommo, these guys like Shinn, Bowman, JMac, etc are all hugely succesful...imagine if you were a real young battler hoping to make it big..you'd have to go through all of these routines, waste, no booze ( or not much ) bugger all rides, struggling financially..what a lifestyle. I don't begrudge paying jocks what they deserve, in fact given the risks etc they are actually underpaid..especially when you compare what they get and what some people on benefits get for doing sweet f.a. Maybe you could talk to taxi about that? ( couldn't help myself pal!)
Thomass
Well "real young battler" is an oxymoron koppa... The likes of young Weatherly are "real young" in terms of coming through the ranks..and their natural talent should make a mark in the end... ...with total dedication to the cause of course...but he's not a battler...yet As for the other... You're generally as good as your surroundings...read upbringing...allows you to be... If your parents have a background of alcohol/ drug issues...it becomes generational... Its more than likely your role models then...are not somebody to look up to Those are the bare facts and Cindy's there to try and change these type of inequalities
SLB2.0
Meanwhile apprentice jockeys have a hard time a) staying balanced and b) being "able" to use the whip and still control the horse. They should do this kind of prep work before ever riding race day.

We need something like the Sth African system...which may be an expensive step too far... ...but definitely something more thorough and organised like the Racing Vic program Apprentice Jockey Training Program The Racing Victoria (RV) Apprentice Jockey Training Program (AJTP) aims to develop professional athletes for an international career in the racing industry. The program is conducted with partners including the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and Exercise Research Australia (ERA). The AJTP is a high-performance athlete program that operates in a continuous improvement environment. Graduates will earn the: Certificate IV in Racing - Jockey The program also currently delivers/provides the following across the 4 years: 1. National Illicit Drugs in Sport (IDiS) Program 2. Specialist Providers Apprentice Jockey Coaches Athlete Development and Industry Careers Advisor Jockey Wellbeing and Safety Officer Stipendiary Steward attached to the program Office of the Racing Integrity Commissioner Sports Science and Sports Medicine (Psychology, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Chief Medical Officer,) Exercise Research Australia (ERA) and the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) provide services and access to other sport high-performance athletes and role models Race Riding, Performance Analysis Media, Finance and Business skills Defensive Driver Training (Murcotts Driver Excellence) As athletes in all sports have to make a decision about how long they are able to compete, apprentices will also be supported to undertake further education and training to prepare for and transition to a career post riding from day one. The career benefits for leading jockeys can be significant as jockeys earn riding fees and receive a percentage of prize money so the program will also prepare athletes to manage this.
