Viva La Forbury

Nothing like the fresh salt air at Forbury to fill the lungs on a chilly autumnal night in Dunners with a mildly warm pie in one hand and a bet slip in the other for whoever who is doing that cos it won't be me.

Race 5 Santanna Lad at 11FF and 3.10FF is nice enough money, certainly, the place price is.

I have a strong inclination to try and pick the card, but unlike Mardy, just for a place. The fool in me says do it...time to disgrace myself but at least it will be amusing. There are a couple of horses racing such as Look Both Ways in race 1 who are possibly better win bets but manners are iffy so for the place it is. If I pick the lot, Brodie has to front with a tip on BOAY. I am sure he will agree to that.

R1 Muchaha Bonita

R2 SPF Three

R3 Depend On Washie

R4 Clifden Clowers

Race 5 Santanna Lad

Race 6 Sharnae

Race 7 Rocknpop

Race 8 Sweet Mary

Race 9 Kiwi Bloke

Race 10 Franco Riot

Viva La Forbury.

Speaking of Forbury. I have a fading memory about a race Lochie Marshall called there in around 1980. Unsure if it was the Barton Memorial when he easily beat Roydon Scott. Maybe not. What I do remember was Lochie clearly stating at one point late in the race that Lord Module was not trying and was being pulled. It's the only time I can remember a NZ racecaller over the last 45 years suggest in a call that a horse was not trying. Anyone else remember that call?

Pretty sure it was this race. Some superb horses in the field. Same year he brilliantly won the NZ Cup.

Yep agree there .No 8 A Cracker Night. (could be if it wins)Promising horse.

R6 No 8 Ultimate Sassenach. Reminds me of a horse called Sassenach that raced in the early 70,s, and also looks as good.

Nice field, wish there was somewhere you could get replays/commentaries etc of these old races, I remember the old ZB network used to do Radio replay, you could get things like that by order....be interesting to see if anyone remembers lachies commentary.

You have inspired me DR to put money on it ?

I think it will be one horse to keep following, because I think it has higher honours than being a maiden. "Famous last words, when sometimes they do not progress for a number of reasons". Time will tell.

Cheers.
