Chief Stipe
9 April 2020 The TAB has announced today that the radio simulcast broadcast of Trackside TV on the AM and FM frequencies will be suspended from midnight 00:00 Sunday 12 April until further notice. The simulcast will continue on Trackside Radio on the TAB website, TAB app and via the Rova app. The decision to suspend the broadcast reflects the reality of no New Zealand racing being available due to the impact of COVID-19 and is aligned with efforts to reduce non-critical costs throughout the business. A lifting of suspension of this service on the radio frequencies will be reviewed once the resumption of New Zealand racing is confirmed. The TAB recognises the suspension of the simulcast broadcast of Trackside TV will impact some customers and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Newmarket
Strange, how much would it take to run? Must be plenty stuck in areas in lockdown listening to radio, even betting on aus racing today? They are killing off everything.

Variable costs well if they took a feed from Australia they wouldn't need to pay for someone in the studio. Any technical support should be able to be done remotely. Surely OZ wouldn't charge? Chief Stipe
Are we that broke that we need to save the pennies by closing down Trackside Radio? Been listening to the 2KY racing programme this morning with Bensely, Duffy and many others. Great listening. All the participants are phoning in. Including all the form analysts, talk back from joe punter, trainers, etc. Surely we could have done something similar here. It isn't as if we are all flat out doing stuff! nomates
This is a continuation of the dismantling of NZ racing . Brick by brick they are slowly tearing it down . Who's going to step up and stop them ? .
Chief Stipe
If they are trying to save money why the hell do they keep showing us that shyte from obscure US tracks? 3
nomates
More punters gone with the radio gone . All the pensioners or lower wage earners that can't afford sky , for most the radio was their only avenue to hearing their money run . Another nail .

Radio fills in the gaps - you can do stuff and have it going in the background. I actually find it soothing. My memories go back to wet Saturdays on the Coast when a youngster and my Dad had the radio going. That brings back another memory. Often you could only get racing from Canterbury and meetings south of there on I think it was 3ZB. Dad had moved to Nelson and couldn't get the radiogram tuned into 3ZB. He had a horse racing at Timaru. I was in Christchurch at Uni and so I tuned in the radio and Dad listened to the race over the phone.

As when racing went to pay TV we lost a huge number of punters , just as we did when the TAB upped the minimum spend on bets then got rid of phone operators all together . Now the last avenue for a lot of people to follow their $$$ has gone as well . The feckin dickheads have just never got it . Never have never will . I just despair at how clueless they are . This is to save money but i'm still waiting to hear about the substantial savings they are making by standing down staff at head office and how much they are saving for racing .
whiplash smile
and if you are using a wireless pc broadband modem like skinny sometimes the streaming on the tab site is so bad after the upgrade I will switch to trackside radio, The biggest mistake they made was taking trackside off` free to air`, got sky but cancelled it after a year and a half and stopped punting altogether, only recently started again with the free bets and I really like how you can deposit and withdraw over the internet, Does anyone else have streaming problems?
