Whanganui True To Form

Recommended Posts

Whanganui proved yet again when looking at the meeting two weeks ago and today that inside draws on a heavy track there are worthless.

There were 23 races run over the two meetings and only one horse drawn inside barrier 5 managed to win and that horse managed to get to the fast lane down the outside fence.

Guess who will be laughing his socks off. ;)

Another meeting in 3 weeks . The beef i have is why , when  there is Otaki , Waverley , Woodville , Hawera all sitting idle . They are so tunnel visioned . Same up north , Counties were supposed to be having their 3rd meeting today , why did they have to have another one ? now Avondale ( the racetrack no one wanted ) having their second meeting in 4 days , why , again other tracks available . It's this sort of management that gives me no confidence that things can be turned around . Not even mentioning Riccarton .

What about Foxton?  Better than all of the ones you mentioned.  You know what the difference is of course - those tracks don't have the new fandangled High Definition Broadcasting Network connection.  Stuff what's good for punters, trainers, owners!  Actually that only leaves those sitting in the studio doesn't it?

Meanwhile Ruakaka which used to have several race meetings at this time of the year lies idle.  A racetrack I might add that had a regular turnout in locals oncourse.  Whom are now pretty pissed off!

Which reminds me of the article I read recently about Tony Pike having a big team ready to go to Australia.  Is that a sign of things to come Pikie?  Get them up and ready on the All Weather Track and then over to Australia.  Will the big bird be flying directly to Hamilton?

The two best winter tracks in the N I not being used in winter , incompetence . I said it before , don't waste 13 mil on A/W at Palmy when you have Foxton sitting 20 mins away . There is a single mindedness in play here that i don't understand .

This is the only real positive that will come out of The A/W at Cambridge . All 3 tracks that are having A/W's installed have local trainers state that they will be great for " training and trialing during the wetter months " . Single mindedness at play again .

That isn't Foxton's fault.  Ask Curious they are all ready and waiting with some nice new facilities.  The track is as good as ever if not better from the lack of racing.

Saw a few gallops there this morning. You could hear them coming from the top of the straight, admittedly on the outside rail.

Yes unfortunately and at a huge cost.  Another folly by Winnie.  They'll suck resources from the industry for years to come.  It will cost them millions at Awapuni in developing the means to control the water table!  I guess you could have a floating AWT!

Probably just build it on piles might work.

Eh?  All three?  So the jockey was slosh slosh.  The horse was thud thud and the whip clip clop?

Didn't hear any whips cracking. Probably in the thud thud range. Looking over the rail they were just cutting into it a bit but no clods flying.

The Palmy A/W will be like a greyhound track .
