Chief Stipe
News Connections considering large offers for Lazarus Sun, 08 Apr 2018 Garrick Knight Lazarus and Mark Purdon after victory in the Inter Dominion Grand Final in Perth. Photo: Ashlea Brennan. A decision on the future plans and ownership of all-conquering champion pacer Lazarus is expected by the end of the coming week. The dual New Zealand Cup winner, who has earned his connections over $3.8 Million in a storied career, is the subject of significant buyer interest. Two large offers have been tabled for the son of Bettor’s Delight, both believed to have been from New Zealand stud farms. His connections – owners Phil and Glenys Kennard, Trevor Casey and Kevin Riseley, as well as trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen – met on Saturday to discuss the offers and potential future plans of their superstar. “There are continuing negotiations, but no decision has been made as to his future,” said Casey when contacted. “There are a few offers on the table but I stress no decision has been made.” It could well be the ownership group opt to race Lazarus on for another season. He needs roughly $1 Million to eclipse Blacks A Fake as the richest Australasian horse of all time, a remarkable achievement considering he is only rising six. The horse himself has been spelling in the North Island for a month and is soon to undertake a pre-training regime. “Laz has had a month off and a full vet check, which was all good,” said Casey. “He is due to resume soon with some water walking and swimming, which he did last season.” As well as a second New Zealand Cup, Lazarus also won the A$1.1 Million Inter Dominion Final in Perth and the A$500,000 Hunter Cup in Victoria. Flagship uberalles
Fully agree, he is a huge drawcard here and Australia and I'm sure a stud career can wait another year.
Kakama
I agree, hope he keeps racing. Be great to see some success as a stallion, but we've seen some great horses fail as a stallion.
