NZTR break Racing Rules...

Rules of NZ Racing - Notwithstanding anything to the contrary expressed or implied elsewhere in these Rules, a sum of money credited to a horse in respect of a particular Race shall not be deemed to be stakes unless such sum is so credited solely on account of such horse having been placed by the Judge (or, in the case of an inquiry resulting in a change of placings, by the Adjudicative Committee) in a stake bearing place in that Race. A sum which is intended to be credited to a horse in a particular Race merely on account of that horse having started in a Race shall not be included in the stake advertised for the Race and such sum, when credited or paid, shall not be deemed to be stakes.

Rating 65 Benchmark* 2000m - $10,000
($5,400, $1,500, $700, $400, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200, $200)

So NZTR contravene their own rules by including starting money in the stakes advertised and credit starting money as prizemoney.

Word is they are not looking at increasing maiden stakes yet from 12 months ago maiden stakes paid eg 1st to 4th are now down by 20%. Luckily for owners costs are down by the same %.

There are only two reasons someone would race a horse in NZ either they have too much money or they hate money simple as that.

Sorry nomates I was been sarcastic.

All good , i was going to ask you for your trainers name .

As for the gist of your post , one of the few positive things NZTR have done for years was the starters bonus , but like the morons they are they completely undermined the positive by taking that money off the winners prize , DOH , you couldn't make it up . Everybody's complaining that winning a maiden was barely covering a months costs so they think it's smart to give them even less .

We wonder why racing is in ever decreasing circles .

Or they dont have the horse power to win a race in Australia, or even the cost of sending one over there, maybe those owners that race in nz for the lower stakes are just in it for the passion of racing, dont think it's quite as cut n dry as you say.

Most that win here, can win over there. Because there is just so many different levels of racing going on.

I guess a lot of people like to stay involved and watch their horse in the flesh , grow etc and thats something that keeps them in the sport here in NZ. But who ever said it is right - you have to be a little crazy (delusional helps also) to be involved here , especially outside of the those that take small shares in horses.
