Dominion Handicap

There seems to be some talk of transferring The Dominion to Cup Day.  I would be against this.  The Dominion deserves its own day where it is the feature on the program and should not play 2nd fiddle to the NZ Cup IMO.

Also it would downgrade Show Day.  Cup day is great as it is and once it is over it's good to have another great days racing to look forward to on the Friday.

I don't think there is any evidence that transferring it would lead to higher betting turnover.

I hope not too, you always hear and read how great cup day is and having a huge crowd and basically NZMET/HRNZ pat themselves on the back yet they can't get 100 people to turn out for other meetings..... how about on cup day give out a few thousand free tickets to show day or food/drink vouchers or free entry to other November meeting or even some summer grass meeting and get the once a year young race goers to come back......

Dougie you are correct that the clubs are struggling to get punters oncourse nowadays, apart from Cup and Showday and Xmas meets!

Reality is that policy adopted by the TAB is majorly to blame for the bigger punters who drive turnover not going!

This affects both profits and atmosphere so others dont bother!

Reverse restrictions and raise the AML limits and turnover and profits will increase!

It aint rocket science but then there is not the intellect employed that can see this!

Fab idea Dougie.

Def think MORE ENTERTAINMENT inbetween races is needed. Went to 1 of those rugby matches this weekend.

They had pump the crowd up type music playing in stands, when there was time out. And at 1/2 time they had a fun relay race. 3 teams made up of all ages, young kids, teenagers & adults. Positioned in the middle of field. It was a sprint relay & entertaining/fun to watch. Break was only 10-15 ish mins too, oppose 20-30 mins. So by time watched that, & then popped off to get hot dog/chips/drink was back in time for the main rugby action.

Def think this big break with No or Low entertainment in-between all races is a big PUT OFF in this day and age for on-track race attendance. Mentioned it on another thread.

Agree with all posters here keep Dominion Day as is separate.

Not the crowds that used to go there now!

People still go but you only need to look at Eden Park last night, half filled ground for a city of nearly 2 million people but they only go mostly on special days TV has fucked it but overkill has as well, both in racing and rugby,I don't even watch trackside much these days,if I'm around I'll tune in but tv has never really dictated my life,I like the radio but from a racing viewpoint I've got used to it not being on now, hopefully senz will get better in time,a lot of people must have turned off racing though without radio.

Far better watch from the couch if betting is the main focus.

From a punting perspective I struggle to think of a reason to go to Addington.

Help me out campers.
