What about the state of the “Crossing” on the first day?

An absolute shocker, they went up and then down!

How can course attendants do such an abysmal job of something so simple?

I cannot find any double price winners at all.lucky there is 10k first fours every race so I didn't waste my time:).I hope they race in the mud as I looked at weather it's awful wind and rain.light drivers have a advantage.

I don't know how so many owners, and especially trainers, could be so desperate to race a horse on a track like that

It's great they are racing there again.its not the owners trainers fault they dished up a pathetic surface.with all this rain and wind it will be a fun day if they race.i hope they race and most important everyone gets around safely.with so many poor horses racing there is some class runners that stand out in form compared to others.i thought all would be happy back racing on grass in the north after the dumb idiots got rid off it

One wonders if the Westport races would go on in the same scenario, bearing in mind there are no gallops there these days.

The next Gallops meeting at Hawera is not until 27th April 2022.  If they had bothered to irrigate Hawera over the summer to keep the grass growing they wouldn't have had a problem.  But irrigation costs.
