WTF is going on in comic zone? A D4 reading and 104mm of rain last 24 hours? That just doesn't make sense, or does it?

Been very dry here and a considerable amount of the rainfall will have just washed off the surface.  That coupled with the intensity - the majority of the rain fell in three hours.

Add to that the sandy track...possibly only a D4 but I doubt whether a penetrometer was used.

Interesting. Since it's still only Monday where I am.

Sorry I meant Sunday to Monday (as you know!).  These holidays one after another stuff me up.

Lot of good the NZTR directive obviously did.

Shame really as there are a lot of the enthusiastic locals hanging out for a race meeting.  Plus Ruakaka has acres of room under cover in their main public stand.

Foxton a slow 8 this morning after 100mm rain last 48 hours. Probably come back a couple of points by the time the trials start tomorrow.

It will certainly be interesting if Foxton is able to conduct a trials meeting on a reasonable surface tomorrow, given all the manoeuvring away from unusable tracks in the CD. Must be very embarrassing if there is a perfectly usable track sitting there unwanted.

Hasn't one of the arguments in the past been that they don't have sufficient facilities for the public?  Doesn't hold up at the moment.

The other red-herring excuse was they needed high bandwidth broadband installed to be able to broadcast.

100 horses due to go round. Brand new jockeys, stipes, JCA rooms etc. Refurbished tea rooms. No problem.

Dead 6 this morning. Warm with a drying breeze. Should suit all horses.

Hot and very humid at Ruakaka today.  Currently 25 C and 130% humidity....OK I've exaggerated with the humidity.  I hope the local club has a great day - they've had a raw deal compared to other clubs over the pandemic.  Shame it is a closed meeting as there are 100's of locals gagging to get out to see the races.  Ruakaka - the track where Verry Elleegant won her Maiden!

Race Day
Weather: Cloudy
Track: Dead 5
Rail: True

Actually upon further analysis the scratchings aren't that too bad.  94 horses going around over 10 races.  3 races hit a bit hard with scratchings.  Two of them R65's.  Is that a programming problem?

The worst scratchings are in the $15,000 maiden they moved from Tauranga. Only 6 starters.

LOL.  I remember comments like those at the time.  Standard line for some who didnt watch the entire race or understand the effort.  She did everything wrong and was put off stride at least three times.  It was that effort that got me excited topped off by the ease of win.

She hasn't changed often throwing that head up and around.

I see in the TAB form guide for the Apollo Stakes this weekend she is described as a "Handy galloper. Class drop helps."

Which proves that the TAB NZ form is computer generated.  So much for integrity for new punters.  I'm surprised it didn't say - "Won Maiden well at Ruakaka, this is a step up".

The Australian Form line says this:

CommentIcon.svg Back after 14 week break. Placed at Randwick when last fresh and won one of seven first-up. Ran in two trials. Hard to beat.
