nod
Haydens brother 'Sonny ' was a capable hurdle rider and an all round good bloke. One day at Ellerslie his favourite horse 'Twister' fell at the last fence and lay on the track obviously dead -Sonny held the horses head in his arms and tears fell. The crowd was silenced , then the horse got up and galloped off. 1

Actually that would be a good Topic in its own right - which ex-Jockeys would be good raceday Stipes? Norm a stipe? in your dreams Norm was a mate of mine for 50+ years after he gave me advice re a first starter he rode. "SHOOT THIS THING NOW AND SAVE THE FLOAT TRIP HOME" I didn't say he was a good stipe just said he was a stipe. I would have thought ex-Jockey's would make better Stipes than ex-Real Estate sales people. Was he correct about the first starter? Or did it go on to win a Group Race?

Norm was never a stipe -at times he was Riding Master and then jockeys Liason Officer The horse was merely useful, the Brynderwyn boy Dessie Wyatt won a nice race on it -no group races in those days

Maybe it wasn't him in the picture I posted in another Topic.

Haitana's brother Pat also rode, was associated with the iron horse Ahjay.

Of course it does but it's also an abuse of power when the incumbent chief Steward (Schreck) lifts the skirt of a jockey's wife. Regarding Stipendiary Stewards, I see there's a position - General Manager Stewards - occupied by one Nigel McIntyre. What exactly does a General Manager of Stewards do and what qualifications are required? This Nigel McIntyre rooster was a former stablehand in a Harness racing stable who couldn't make it in the game as a harness horseman yet is now the head Steward FFS ! Surely a General Manager of Stewards isn't required and even it was shouldn't it be Goodber's responsibility?
