Tesio
Ashburton mid week racing and they schedule a Open 1600, Open 1200 and a Rating 74 1400. Where do they think all these horses are going to come from to fill those races at a mid week meeting. Now lets dig deeper: Open 1600 - 4 horses nominated and only 1 is above 70 rating Open 1200 - 5 horses nominated and only 3 are above 70 rating Rating 74 1400 - 11 horses nominated (will be a good race if all start) There is also a rating 65 1600 race. One of the 4 horses nominated in the Open 1600 is a rating 63 horse so could have started in the rating 65 1600 Why do the powers to be continually waste Industry money with such poor programming? They simply haven't got a clue & like abandoned meetings no one seems to care and it just goes on and on.
Doomed
I was going to comment, but I thought people were probably sick of my comments about incompetent programming in the South. Virtually every $15,000 open race programmed in Canterbury gets abandoned. Interesting of course that they are happy to run a 5 horse 3yo race at Trentham last weekend for $30,000, but they won't run an open $15,000 race in the South with 4 or 5. Doesn't help that there is an open 1,600m race at Wingatui a few days later for $25,000. On the subject of Wingatui: 7 races programmed? Is that because the brains trust just can't think of anything to programme as an 8th race? Have they heard of 2yos and 3yos?? I could easily programme a 10 race card at Wingatui and get reasonable fields for all. It really is amateur hour. Some old heads who used to run things down there would be turning in their graves. I would love to hear what one or two of the knowledgeable ex administrators who aren't in their graves think of the way it is being run into the ground.

But imo we have an industry being run for the few and not the majority, thats reflected in programming in general and more specifically around your comments on the 3yo race at Trentham. The biggest issue I have with the programming is that there is quite simply no pathway to these races , it's all just thrown together with no future meetings or races in mind , actually a lot like the calendar has become. It can't be hard to work out horse numbers in specific areas(might help them utilize race tracks and industry resources better for a start) and schedule race dates and or specific races that would assist the industry , but instead it seems the programming and calendar is just plucked from the sky. That makes me think two things a) we have very incompetent administration and/or b) the programming and calendar is agenda based .I believe it to be a combination of the two and getting worse . Re Wingatui, is that the dual code meeting on Anniversary Day? If so, the harness have half the card.
